Some Advantages and Disadvantages of Rebound Relationships
Depending on which side of the rebound relationship you are on, you will either love it or hate it. A rebound relationship occurs when someone gets into a new relationship just after a relationship break up without first getting over the previous relationship properly. So are there any good points about a rebound relationship? Here are some advantages and disadvantages of rebound relationships.
1. The greatest advantage of rebound relationships is that you feel better in the short run and the emotions that were damaged by the break up are soothed by the devotion of the new love. After the break up you were in grief mode but your new love interest suspends that and you begin to feel almost human again.
2. The greatest disadvantage of rebound relationships is that you usually take as a rebound partner someone you would not normally go out with. This has both good and bad aspects as it can open you to the great attributes of people you normally don't date and you can find true love in the most unlikely places. The flip side is that you can end up with someone who aggravates you in ways you didn't know possible.
3. Another advantage of rebound relationships is that the new love interest gets to date someone they normally wouldn't date. This can be a great boost to their self esteem especially if they are dating up their normal dating chain since the person on rebound tends to date down their normal dating chain. The flip side of this is that the new love interest can easily fall in love with the rebound person and become unbearably clingy. A forerunner to all the great one sided tragic love stories.
4. Another disadvantage of rebound relationships is that you have not healed from your break up and you have unresolved issues that you need to sort out. Some people are able to sort them out in the rebound relationship but most people can't. You need to understand the category in which you fall and ensure that you heal. Unresolved issues have a way of rearing their heads up later in your love relationships so ensure that you deal with them.
5. Another disadvantage of rebound relationships is that they tend to be emotionally explosive in the sense that the person on rebound is there just to feel better while the new love interest may have been waiting for them for years, on the sideline, and now they finally have their dream person. A total mismatch of expectations that can only lead to an unhealthy and unhappy end. The rebound person will have great difficulty extracting them-self from this relationship even when they feel better and want to move on.
Rebound relationships have advantages and disadvantages and if you have just broken up and there is someone you are thinking of using to feel better then keep in mind that the other person is human and that they have expectations of you. Make sure that you can handle the fall out that will come from this rebound relationship. If instead of getting into a rebound relationship you would rather work to win back your ex then you need another strategy.
