Some Loneliness Movies For Your Perusal
Whether you are feeling lonely or simply want to get a deeper insight into how the other half lives
, loneliness movies are essential additions to any collection. All of the movies that we review here utilize loneliness as a theme to some degree, but a few really highlight the more depressing aspects of loneliness and serve it up on a cinematic platter. So for your viewing enjoyment, here are a few loneliness movies that may just help you see the condition in a different light.
Home Alone is one of those loneliness movies that are really much more than that. Although definitely fitting into the Christmas movie/comedy category. Home Alone is jam-packed full of subtle innuendoes and charming flourishes that make it bear repeated watching. Starring the lovable Macaulay Culkin as Kevin, the movie takes a look at how it would be for an eight-year-old boy to spend Christmas at home alone. The loneliness quickly takes a backseat to the rollicking comedy action, as Kevin fights to save his home from two determined, but not-so-smart thieves played to knee-slapping perfection by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. A loneliness movie that is as much a comedy as it is an action-adventure, Home Alone is definitely recommended for all ages.
WALL-E is one of the few animated loneliness movies in cinematic history. A charmingly rendered tale set in the distant future, WALL-E features a minuscule robot assigned to waste collecting duties that by pure chance is sent on a space journey. This is not just any space journey either, as the trip requires our unlikely heroes to do everything in their powers to save mankind. With exquisitely rendered characters and a thoroughly engrossing storyline, WALL-E is a definite departure from the typical loneliness movies.
Taxi Driver is only one of the many true loneliness movies that have achieved classic status. Set in the sleazy nighttime streets of New York City, the movie stars Robert Deniro as an ex-Marine and insomniac who takes to driving a cab in order to fill up the interminable nocturnal hours. Although there are a few touching moments and ultimate redemption in the end, much of the movie is devoted to exploring the dark and twisted corridors of the mind that only a full-blown case of loneliness can bring. The movie is made all the more compelling by the almost sinister setting of the dirty city streets, making it one of the few loneliness movies truly deserving of the description.
There are plenty more loneliness movies out there that are worth watching, but the ones reviewed here bring so much more to the table than the typical examples. While most movies that fit into the category leave you feeling depressed and dejected after watching them, these are almost uplifting in their contrast, detail, and range. If you are a fan of loneliness movies but are often left wanting just a little bit more, you definitely owe it to yourself to check out these fine examples of cinematic mastery.
