Some Tips For Choosing The Music For Your Wedding

With all the stresses, trials and tribulations

, arguments and make-ups that a couple can go through when planning a wedding, surely choosing the music for your big day is one of the more enjoyable tasks?

Youd think so. However couples can often have very different opinions about what constitutes the perfect wedding song. Music tastes can be so incredibly varied, and passions can run this. Even the most timid of grooms-to-be can kick off, even at the slightest suggestion of Rihanna performing the soundtrack on their wedding day.

The Hollywood notion of every couple having their song is far from the truth. In fact, most people find the choice of music one of the hardest parts of their wedding day. So heres a rundown of some of the more popular, and perhaps more avant-garde options that are available.

String Quartet

This adds an air of class to any occasion. A string quartet can be great for walking down the aisle, or for a relaxed atmosphere during wedding meals/catering. Another great advantage is that these groups will often take requests and perform a classical interpretation of modern music.

Brass Band

Composed of horns, woodwinds and a percussion section, this style of music has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years, which some put down to Mark Ronsons recent brass-led reimaginings of pop classics. This type of band can play such a wide variety of tunes - slow soulful music, uptempo dance numbers and fast paced ska to name but a few.

Steel Band

For sunny occasions, or weddings with a tropical feel, a steel band can bring the flavours of the Caribbean to anywhere in the world. This type of band add a light hearted, fun atmosphere to the ceremony. If youre having an unorthodox event, this type of band will bring cool, relaxing vibes and will make your day one that lingers in the memory of all that attend.

DJ

One of the most popular choices nowadays is the DJ, and it is a safe option provided you do your research. Most DJs can be provided with a tracklist to work with, or the best can be trusted to roll out a constant supply of non-offensive music at a reasonable volume. However, if you do want offensive at an unreasonable volume, youll probably be looking for a specialist. If this is the case, ask for recommendations from friends, check online and social media is another great place to look for DJs in your area.

And finally...

One way to add a personal touch to your big day is to have a musician who is also a friend perform, or to personally select a track list of songs that mean a lot to you. Whatever you choose, make sure both you and your partner are happy and that the music will somehow add to the tone or theme of this very special occasion.

You should also ensure that theres enough music, dance and wine to keep your guests happy. While the ceremony is the most important aspect of the day, the after party should be a commemoration of the event and a time when the bride and groom and all the guests can let their hair down and have some fun.
