Its stress enough in the morning trying to get yourself organised and out the door in time, but what happens if you lose your key? Do you have a spare? Many people keep the spare key on the same key as their original, while other people keep it in the glove compartment, a really bad idea, as if you lose your car key, you are unlikely to have left your car conveniently unlocked so you can grab the spare out!

With car keys becoming far more sophisticated, most of us have central locking in our key or immobilisers, so if you lose it, it could be really costly to fit, even if you have a relatively cheap car.

Many insurance companies exclude the loss of keys from their policies, so as well as it being massively expensive; you will probably have to stump up the cost yourself.

If you think about the technology that goes into our car keys these days, as opposed to ten years ago, the differences are amazing, before, we would have had a key that you put in the lock and turned, which seems inexpensive and relatively easy to replace. But nowadays, chips are built into these keys and they control our central locking and some even lock the engine too. So lose the key, and find that your car is basically immobilised, and this mistake could cost you from as much as three hundred pounds for what was a relatively cheap car in the first place. Up this to anything that cost you a lot and the key will make you remortgage your house!
