Speed reading skill is an important tool these days in this fast living world

. Most of us have to read a lot of stuff everyday we come across. There could be many instances where we need speed reading. For example, if you are passing by something like an advertisement stating something you will definitely need speed reading at such a point.

In another instance if you are short of time and when you try to read something urgently you will need speed reading. There are also other instances such as exams and other stuff where you may need speed reading. As such we should learn speed reading also maintain this technique so that we may use it when needed. Before venturing into speed reading technique make sure that you know the basic elements of all the speed reading techniques.

The main thing is that you need to have the desire to learn the speed reading technique. Without this even if you are willing learn the technique you will not be able to learn it properly. Second thing is that you should have the sense to use the new ideas and put them to use. Thirdly you should have good motivation and continued practice without which you will not retain the speed reading technique with you for longer period.

There are various speed reading techniques such as: Skimming: in this technique the reader skims through the matter which is to be read. The person has to be quick enough to scan through the matter and get the picture of the matter that what it is about. Most of the speed readers use this technique and this is also one of the best techniques of speed reading which is followed. Here in this technique only the important matter is read the rest is discarded.

First sentence reading: in this technique when you suggest the name, you simply read the first sentence to get the idea about the matter that what it is about. Here you just read the first sentence of every paragraph which you come across and try to get the idea on it by skimming the rest of the matter.

This process shall be repeated until all the matter is covered. In this technique the person reads the matter in a pre-supposedly manner where the person usually assumes what the content would be in the remaining paragraph which is the case most of times. But sometimes the person might lose the vital information hidden in the paragraph. When you find that you are reading material where the writer has used multiple ideas in the same paragraph, you may need to adapt your speed reading technique to one of the other speed reading techniques.

The final technique is group wording where the person particularly reads the group of words and extracts the information from it. This needs proper understanding and comprehensive ability. This technique is best used as this saves lot of time.

So you can choose from any of the techniques which are used for top speed reading. You may also used two or more techniques at a time to improve speed reading.
