Stand Up Paddling I Have Heard Of, But Pack Rafting?

They look like surfboards

They look like surfboards. They originated in Hawaii in the 1960s to enable surfers to catch more waves in a set using an outrigger paddle. Stand Up Paddling has been moving rapidly from coastal areas to inland lakes. Stand Up Paddleboards came to Moab with Canyon Voyages rental fleet last year. Presently, a veteran river guide has started a guided SUP tour company, Paddle Moab. Paddle Moab packages Stand Up Paddling with guided trail running and canyoneering. Desert Highlights is packaging canyoneering with mountain biking and pack rafting. Readers get ready for the next wave in water sports Pack Rafting.

Stand Up Paddling is taking the Nation by storm! Moab Utah has had a company, Paddle Moab, bring guided stand up paddling to the Colorado River flowing through Moabs canyon corridors in 2012. The Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) first arrived, commercially, in Moab through Canyon Voyages as a rental option in the Canyon Voyages boat fleet in 2011. Canyon Voyages introduced it with a free SUP demo day on a nearby reservoir and repeated this demo day this year. Paddle Moab has developed a weekly race for fun that comes with a coveted medal.

After an individual has mastered the basic SUP skills, Paddle Moab will provide Whitewater SUP instruction for an added kick of adrenaline. Paddle Moab is packaging Stand Up Paddling and Trail Running with 360 Moab Adventures. 360 Moab Adventures uses the Jacobs Ladder trail system which is a lofty elliptical loop west of the Moab valley. Paddle Moab also packages Stand Up Paddling with canyoneering for another Rim to River adventure.

At the mention of canyoneering, the original canyoneering company in Moab is Desert Highlights. Always innovative and adventuresome, Desert Highlights has introduced the next wave of water sports, Pack Rafting. Using a one-person raft weighing 5 pounds, deflated into the size of a football, Desert Highlights is paddling seasonal southeastern Utah and Four Corners area streams that are not easily reached and streams that require crossing to complete a canyoneering trek. The compact size of the pack raft can be taken along everywhere. The pack raft fits in the side pocket of many pack designs along with a segmented compact paddle. Pack Rafting has been teamed up with Desert Highlights exhilarating canyoneering trips to create an amazing experience.

In October 2007, a group of individuals used the pack raft for a descent of Cataract Canyon by hiking in to the Colorado River by way of the Needles District of Canyonlands over Elephant Hill then down Lower Red Canyon to the river. Pack Rafting with these Packrafts can be paired with mountain biking, running and hiking!

Get an epic ride on!
