Starcraft 2 report guide for counter units
For Starcraft 2, every unit, regardless of race
, has its own strength and weaknesses. So it's up to you to build the right counter units for you to win the game. Similarly, if your opponent plans to adopt an entirely different approach, you would also have to change your game play.
Study the list of Starcraft 2 units below and you should be able to find the right counter units against them, you have to analyse which categories the units belong to.
There are 3 categories; light or armoured, biological or mechanical and massive or non-massive. You can view these categories by selecting the unit and looking at the bottom of your screen.
Here is a summarised list of Starcraft 2 units with damage bonus points:
Reaper: + damage to light units
Marauder: + damage to armored
Ultralisk: + damage to armored
Ghost: + damage to light
Phoenix: + damage to light air
Thor: + damage to light air units
Immortal: + damage to armored
Corruptor: + damage to massive
To identify the counter units, you can predict that a unit which deals bonus damage to another unit class applies to the all the units of that class. For instance, the marauder deals bonus damage to armored units like Thors, Roaches and Stalkers.
However not all units complies with this chart. For example, the reaper gives bonus damage to light units but has a weak counter when fighting the ghost. Reason being is that both the Reaper and ghost are considered light units and only do bonus damage to other light units. On the other hand, the ghost contains higher HP and does more damage than the reaper.
Conclusively, the Ghost counters the Reaper. The Ultralisk also follows the same concept. Many would agree that the Ultralisk can counter an armoured unit.
This unit deals bonus damage to armored units. The Immortal is of the armored unit class, so you might think Ultralisks can counter them. But you are wrong. It is because the Immortals have higher bonus damage to armor units as compared to the Ultralisk. As a result, the Ultralisk will be defeated by an Immortal in a 1v1 situation.
More so, any unit in Starcraft 2 may end up getting screwed because its very obvious that most players seldom use one type of unit to either attack or defend. For example, it is common for protoss player to combine Immortals with Stalkers. The Marauder will counter the Stalker. On the other hand, the Marauder ends up being countered by the Immortals. Therefore it is not conclusive to say the Marauder is a counter to the Stalkers because the presence of Immortals is there to protect the Stalkers from getting damage. The situation will only turn in favor of the Marauders if there are no Immortals.
Most amateurs fail to realize this key concept and will always remain the poor rankings. If you spend more time to know what your units are good at fighting against and understanding their weaknesses, you should not have a problem winning any battles.
