Start Your Container Garden With Easy Vegetables To Grow
If you want a garden with less work, then consider a container garden
. Each year that you plant a container garden you will get faster and find ways to cut the work even more. You can even make your container garden an organic one with just a few techniques.
Almost any vegetable you can think of can be planted in containers, yet some don't grow as well. In fact, some plants are ideally suited for containers, especially if you want an organic container garden. Nutrients, physical support, and water are the three main things you need to be successful. Just remember that good drainage is important because too much water is just as bad as having too little water.
Before going over the easy vegetables you can grow in your container garden we need to talk about the soil. The best way to plant in containers is by using synthetic or soil-less mixes. Synthetic or soil-less mixes are good because they are free from weed seed and disease. The synthetic soil weighs less and therefore moving plants will be less backbreaking.
Easy Vegetables To Grow
Peppers and tomatoes
These varieties of plants are extremely easy to work with and produce a lot of food. You don't want your plant to be top heavy when grown, so use a large container for these plants. You can also surround them in chicken wire if you don't want them growing out of the pot, however, tomatoes will grow hanging down.
The plants we just discussed will still bloom over and over with a fresh supply of vegetables.
Lettuce
Growing what you need for a fresh salad is simple to do and there is nothing to compare it to. Lettuce can be grown in a small pot but the downside is that once it's gone, no more reappears like on the tomato plant. To ensure you have plenty of lettuce you can plant as many pots as you like, only space them about two weeks apart so you will have an endless supply.
Onions and Radishes
Both of these vegetables only have the stems and leaves above ground and the main part of the vegetable is underground. They don't need a large pot and grow fairly quick.
Herbs
Herbs take up very little room and make beautiful plants for decorating the kitchen or patio. Just clip and add to your foods while cooking!
Other vegetables that you might try are eggplant, garlic chives, squash, beets, and spinach. If you are nervous, just start with the salad vegetables we talked about first. Don't wait any longer, start your very own container garden today.
