Starter Obedience Training Suggestions For Canines

The most basic commands that you'll learn first are usually sit, stay and come. These few basic commands are incredibly useful and important to have your dog master, especially as your pet ages. When you take your dog for his daily walk, you want him to mind and demonstrate how well behaved he is. You don't want him to act untrained. If you truly work hard with your pet and give him your attention, reassurance, and praise, dog training can be successfully attained in a one or two short months.

Many dog training and obedience classes are widely available. So if you can't teach your dog by yourself there is plenty support at the class, there are also other dogs there. Part of the training process for your dog includes the basic steps of sit, stay, come and socialization goals are also included within training. Dogs are kind of like children to an extent, except with a lot of fur, they need to be taught right and wrong.

In my experience, few things motivate a dog more to listen to you than knowing that this means that a treat is in store if he does what you ask him to. Raising your voice at your dog is pointless, because he will not understand you and will simply become afraid of you. It is much better for an owner and dog to have a happy and functional relationship.

When teaching your dog obedience try and teach him away from distractions like his toys, take him to an empty field or park where there aren't any people, only you and him. The way to train your dog to sit on command is to tell him to sit, gently but as a command. At the same time, place your hand on his back and gently push him down until he sits. When his sits, offer praise--"good boy" is good--and offer a treat to reinforce the behavior. Repetition reinforced with a reward for positive behavior will help him realize what you mean.

It may be another to get him to stay, you may require another person.

Make an attempt to make him sit (once he has understood) and get a friend to hold him. Walk away from him telling him to stay, using your hand hold it up firmly (doing this will make him realize that when you hold your hand up in the future you want him to stay as well, not just when you tell him to) then give it a couple of seconds and allow your buddy to release him, when he approaches you ensure you command him to sit and let him know that he is very smart!
