State Government has tied your hands: Rahul Gandhi
State Government has tied your hands: Rahul Gandhi
13th April 2007
"The government's job is not to tie your hands, rather it should untie it and provide it some work and help in moving ahead. But your government has tied your hands, they are not letting you build your own state. When the people of Uttar Pradesh are the architects behind the building of states like Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, then why can't they achieve the feat in their own state. Its all because the state government is not letting you do so", said Rahul Gandhi in an attacking manner at a public meeting which was attended very well.
"I want to warn them that I am here and I am not alone. The youth of the state are with me. And now the youth of Uttar Pradesh have decided that enough is enough and they want to change the scenario", he said.
The presence of such huge crowds and especially the presence of youth in the rallies and road shows of Mr Gandhi is in itself an indicator of change.
Before reaching Moradabad, Mr Gandhi addressed a public meeting at Shahabad. "If we want to change the society for better, our youth will have to come forward and lead from the front. And in the effort Rahul Gandhi will be with you, always. Its not a matter of election, I will be here even after the elections," said Rahul Gandhi addressing a public meeting at Shahabad.
"After Independence of the country, development started in the country and in that race Uttar Pradesh left other states behind it and led from the front. But look at it today, it is no where in the race of development," he said.
"What kind of government is this, hardly bothered about your development? You have the same roads, which was there fifteen years ago, same electricity, same basic amenities, then what are they doing for the last fifteen years? You should ask them," he told the crowds who were there to attend the meeting.
Before Shahabad Congress MP Rahul Gandhi reached Kaimri where an enthusiastic crowd of congress workers and supporters received him.
"He is young and dynamic, we believe that he can bring change. Lets see what happens, but personally I feel that he is a good human being and will emerge as a good leader too," said Raghu, who was there to welcome Rahul Gandhi at Kaimri.
"His entry will boost the long term prospects of the Congress party and Uttar Pradesh. Congress will gain some seats also", felt another one who attended the Jan Samparka campaign of Rahul Gandhi at Kaimri.
It was a very successful campaign, felt Nadeem, who was there Alongwith the massive crowds who had gathered to welcome Mr Gandhi. Campaigning in his usual style, Mr Gandhi won the hearts of the people of Kaimri. They defied the sun and came out in large numbers in support of the Congress leader.
Mr Gandhi also addressed a public meeting at Sherkot in Afjalgarh.
"My work will start here after the elections. I am not here for elections only; I will come here after the election also and will work with you. We together will change the scenario. Uttar Pradesh will once again be the leader of the nation and a model for other states", promised Rahul Gandhi addressing the public meeting at Sherkot.
Blasting off the state government, Mr Gandhi said that although the Central Government sent huge funds to Uttar Pradesh, the state government never utilized it. "The UPA Government tried its best to help out Uttar Pradesh by sending funds for development, the state government never utilized it. Where did all the money go? You should ask the state government and take an account", he said.
Earlier, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi kicked off his fourth leg of campaign in Uttar Pradesh from Syohara in Bijnore. He addressed a public meeting in Syohara, where he requested the electorates to vote for the Congress candidate.
"When you go to vote, please cast it keeping in mind that you are voting for your future. So cast your vote for a better future," requested Rahul Gandhi to the people who have come to attend his public meeting at Syohara.
"Only the youth of the state can bring a change in the state of affairs of Uttar Pradesh. Congress candidate Anwar Jamil is young, and he can think and work in a new way. We need such leaders for the good of the society, the state and the nation", said Mr Gandhi.
He once again lambasted the political parties who have been at the helm of affairs for the last 15 years in Uttar Pradesh. "None of the political parties, which came to the power in UP in the last 15 years did anything for you. They just worked on dividing you, in the name of caste and religion. What have they done? Today, the state has all kinds of problems; water, electricity, roads, you name any. Only thing, which is flourishing in the state is Gundaraj", he added.
"There was a time when Uttar Pradesh was a model for other states and they followed it, looked up to it. But today, it has changed, the glory has been lost, we need to revive it", he further said.
