Many schools and offices have already been closed and at some points life almost feels like it has come to a stand still. Staying stuck inside could be an option but if you get some time to spend with your family and friends, why not make the most of your time together?

If you are keen on having safe fun on the slopes, you need to invest in a good quality sledge first. If you are dusting off an old sledge you need to make sure your sledge doesn't have any rusted metal runners.

Finding the right slope will take some time but it will be worth it. You will need a slope without any obstacles as considering your safety should be your top priority. You need to make sure you aren't blocking the way for anyone else too, as there could be other people using the same slope to sledge and you don't want to cause any serious injuries. Some people may not be in control of their sledges, so you need to stay alert.

At some point you are going to need to drive too, but you know the snow is going to give you a hard time. The best precaution you can take is to install snow chains on your tyres. Snow chains cover your tyres and provide them with greater traction on ice, slush and compacted snow. The come in different sizes to suit the tyre size and make and model of your car, so make sure you purchase the right set.

When you do buy a snow chain set, make sure you read the snow chain manual carefully. You need to make sure you install the snow chains correctly. A wrongly installed snow chain can cause damage to your car. If you cannot figure your way around the manual, it is a good idea to get some help.

You should also bear in mind that you may have problems actually starting your car. One of the most common reasons for breakdown calls during cold snaps is a problem with the battery. If your car battery is under-performing and your car has trouble starting, it's worth considering a replacement to avoid being left stranded!

It just goes to show that winter, along with the cold temperatures and snow it brings, can be brutal but staying prepared against the usual mishaps will make these snowy time a lot more enjoyable and safe.
