Some people think that it is much safer to talk when they have a headset on. Studies have shown that even talking on a headset decreases reaction time which will increase the chances of injuries and death.
Do not even let your cell phone be turned on while you are in the car. If you have to make a call you should pull your off of the road to a safe spot to stop and then turn off your car and turn on your cell phone.
If you take this rule to heart you will be much more able to concentrate on the road than if you have your cell phone on. Not only will you be more attentive but you will also be much safer.
After you have turned off your cell phone you should look in your car to find any additional distractions. There are multiple different places that distractions can come from.
There are a lot of people that have a wide variety of music in their car. Whether you listen to CD's or you listen to your MP3 player you should make sure that you have all of your music set out before you start to drive.
If you are trying to choose what music you want to listen to, get it set up in the car and concentrate on the road at the same time you will end up losing concentration of the road. Do not let yourself choose your music while you are already driving.
If you must change your music simply pull over to the side of the road and put different music on. You can also enlist the help of your passengers to help you with your music.
There are a lot of people that have passed away in car accidents that were caused simply because the driver averted his or her eyes from the road to adjust the music. Do not become one of these statistics.
If you are not looking at the road you may miss a traffic sign. Missing a traffic sign can be lethal.
There are a lot of signs that you have to adhere to not only because you want to be courteous to other drivers but also for safety reasons. Even running a stop sign can be a lethal mistake.
If you are eating or drinking when you are driving you should stop. Although you may have a busy schedule and you may feel like this is the only time that you are able to get some nutrients in you it can be very dangerous to do so.
You should give yourself more time to eat outside of your car. You will be much safer because of it.
When you are eating or drinking in the car you will have to avert your eyes from the road consistently. You also run the risk of spilling on yourself.
If you spill on yourself you will definitely have to look away from the road. Anything that takes your eyes of the road is not beneficial to your driving.
Driving is not scary, but you have to take it seriously. Do not take your responsibility to yourself and to the other drivers on the road lightly.
Make sure that you are attentive and aware of your situations at all time. Free your car of distractions so you can be the safest driver possible.
