Typically made with a wooden and foam inner core, then wrapped with two pieces of extruded metal, a metal door is solid and strong as can be. As the thickness of the steel increases, the strength of the door (and the cost) does as well. Cons: its no secret that steel doors can be made to look like many different door styles; they often have trouble mimicking the look of real wood. And because steel doors are made from, well, steel, they will eventually rust and corrode unlike its fiberglass counterpart. If youre planning on using a steel door around a pool area, where significant water impact occurs or extreme temperature fluctuations are a problem, you may want to consider installing a fiberglass door instead. Fiberglass

By being able to injection mold the fiberglass doors exterior panels, wood grains and other intricate details can be added to a fiberglass door, making it nearly indistinguishable from an all wood door or other materials. Fiberglass doors also resist rot and decay better than any other door material available. Fiberglass is lighter and in many cases, just as strong as a conventional steel door.

Cons: Fiberglass doors tend to be in the higher price range of door materials and many people avoid them simply because of that. But the fact of the matter is that an all wood door of the same caliber will be much more costly than its fiberglass counterpart. Fiberglass doors are able to withstand rot and decay well, but can still be affected by the weather in some extreme cases, casing warps in the door, ensuring it rubs, cracks or sticks in the jamb later in its lifetime.
