Steel Welding:what Is Mig Welding
Welding steel is basically the method of linking pieces of metal together
. Usually, it is performed by melting another metal which functions as an adhesive that links two pieces of steel together. When it cools, it becomes a very strong join.
One of the most common welding processes is the MIG welding. MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding is also known as the wire welding or the GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding). It is sometimes called hot glue gun and perceived to be one of the easiest types of welding.
MIG welding is the process of melting and joining pieces of metal together using electric power.
It was developed in middle of the 20th century. However the basic principles applied nowadays are basically the same. But just few years ago, its name was changed. It became the GMAW which stands for Gas Metal Arc Welding. However, people remember the first name better. It is why they still call it by its original name.
It is done by creating a short circuit which will produce heat and a certain kind of gas. These will be used to melt the pieces of metal and will cause them to mix together. The steel will begin to cool once heat is no longer applied. It will become a new piece of merged metal once it solidifies.
MIG welding is a great way to join together various kinds of metals such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, magnesium, nickel, copper, and silicon bronze.
Below are some of the many advantages of MIG welding.
1. It can link together many various types of metal.
2. It is able to join together a wide range of metal thickness.
3. Its process can be learned easily.
4. MIG welding creates minimum and manageable weld splatter.
5. Its weld bead is very good.
6. It has an all-position welding ability.
There are also some disadvantages of MIG welding. Here are some of them.
1. It cannot properly weld very thick metals.
2. It is not considered portable because it makes use of inert gas. The other types of welding like the arc welding is considered portable because an external source of shielding is no longer needed.
3. Compared to stick welding, MIG welding is a little complicated.
4. The result of another form of welding called the TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding is better than with the MIG welding.
Steel welding is very essential in steel fabrication. In fact, it is the most effective way of linking steels together.
