Steps To Make A Tie: The Windsor And The Half-windsor
It is a good practice to be equipped with the appropriate skills when it comes to tying a necktie
. Here are some of the popular types of necktie knots:
The Windsor knot
It is the most professional looking knot for your necktie. Big with a regular shape to it, it is mainly used with silk ties or ties made of thin materials. This knot will make your necktie short thus it is not perfect for tall people.
When creating a Windsor knot:
1. Put the large end of the tie on your right side and the small end on your left. Depending with how long you want the tie to be, extend the small end of the tie past your collar by about one foot. Proceed to cross the end over the small end.
2. Pass the huge end of the tie through the loop of the tie.
3. Move the huge end back down over the loop of the tie and back to your left side.
4. Take the large end of the tie and pass it underneath the back of the tie. Ensure that the tag of the necktie is showing.
5. Pass the large end over the knot. At this point, the tag of the tie should be against your shirt.
6. Take the large end and yank it through the loop.
7. Pull the tip of the large end down through the knot. Pull the large end securely and make adjustments on it until it looks uniform and tight. Pull the tie by holding the knot and pulling the small end of the necktie. If you want to get a lovely dimple in the tier, push on the middle of the necktie and squeeze the sides up into the knot.
The Half-Windsor
It is a simple, professional looking knot with a typical shape to it. It is used in uniform ties that are made of thick materials such as wool and polyester, although works well with most necktie materials.
The method for constructing this knot is:
1. Place the large end of the tie on your right side and the smaller end on your left. Depending with how long you want the tie to be, lengthen the small end of the tie past your collar by about one foot. Proceed to cross the end over the small end.
2. Fold the large end beneath the small end. The large end should now be backwards with the necktie's tag showing.
3. Pass the wide end through the loop of the tie to wrap around the small loop on the right hand side of the necktie.
4. Move the wide end over the knot. The tag of the tie should now be against your shirt.
5. Take the large end and pull it through the loop.
6. Lastly, pull the tip of the large end down through the knot. Pull the large end tightly and make adjustments on it until it looks uniform and tight.
Pull the tie by holding the knot and pulling the small end of the necktie. If you want to get a lovely dimple in the tier, push on the middle of the necktie and squeeze the sides up into the knot.
