Tires can easily pop or become damaged. A driver may ride over a nail, tree branch, glass or something that damages it. When operating a car, it is important to be prepared to change one of your tiers in a safe fashion. It is impossible to know when you will change it. The situation will be much worse if you try to change it in a way that is not safe and you are injured or the car becomes more damaged that it was before you tried to fix it.
Make sure that the car is on a flat surface before you try to look at the tire. This is important because many roads are slanted or on hills. The car could easily roll forward or backwards and fall on you, someone who is with you or it could fall onto the ground and damage part of the body of it. Each year, many inexperienced individuals try to inspect and change tires on uneven surfaces and disasters occur. Looking at the tire on a surface that is not flat is very dangerous.
The vehicles needs to be in park with the emergency brake on and the key should not be in the ignition. If the car is in neutral or the key is in the ignition. There is a small chance that the car will move. You hands or feet or body may be underneath of the car at that point in time.
Place the jack under the metal frame of the car that is next to the tire. The car may become damaged and crack if the jack is not in the correct location. The jack should also be supporting the car by being securely in place under the metal frame. It should be directly under it and not partially under the frame.
Remove the wheel slowly and make sure that no tools roll away. A wheel lock could easily roll and fall down a sewer and you would not be able to safely put the tire onto the vehicle. Screw the wheel firmly into place with a wrench. If it is not secure, you could have an accident while you are driving.
Keep your feet and hands away from underneath of the car when you lower it. Also, make sure that you lower it slowly.Tighten the lug nuts again after the new wheel is on the ground.
