Stock Up On Fashion Tips

, stylish alternative to the ever-practical pair of tights. They look great with any outfit, keep the body warm, and add a level of sophistication unseen in many typical undergarments. However, there are numerous ways to keep them on out there, so we have compiled a helpful list for everything under the sun!

First, know that stockings are not tights. They do not come up to the waist, but instead come partway up the leg and are held in place by one of three helpful means, each with a different feel and overall effect. Garter belts are the most popular means of holding up stockings. A woman essentially wears a belt that has a series of suspenders draping down from the top. These suspenders are clipped to the top of the piece and help them stay up, no matter what the shape of the leg. Many garter belts are designed as fine lingerie, and add a romantic touch to any outfit.

Second in popularity are stay-ups, elastic bands that are built into the piece in order to literally help it stay up. These function in a manner similar to socks, and while they do not require an additional piece, can be difficult for two reasons. First, the sizing of stay-ups is not consistent. Some may be too tight, even if the stocking overall fits, which can leave uncomfortable red marks. Some may, on the other hand, be too large, which will mean that the piece will fall down the leg and cause an entirely different type of discomfort. Trying on the piece before buying would be very helpful if one were to go for stay-up options.

Third in popularity are garters, which function in a manner halfway between the above two options. Garters are commonly seen at weddings, and are worn at the very top of the piece. Usually they are stretchy in texture and work like clamps, basically sty-ups that function outside the piece itself. They are fun and can be incredibly sensuous--at least they are in movies and television programmes if worn properly--but have a serious of disadvantages as well. Like stay-ups, they can sometimes be too tight and cause discomfort or red marks, even accentuating varicose veins. If too big, they wont be ineffective and you might run the risk of running around with a garter at your heels!
