Stop Smoking with Electronic Cigarettes
Like many smokers, I've tried to kick the habit several times in my life. It wasn't until I tried electronic cigarettes that I was finally able to get tobacco use out of my life.
Before buying, I got curious and looked into the history of the e-cig. It seems that an inventor named H. A. Gilbert originally came up with e-cigarettes in 1965, but technology just wasn't prepared to deal with a handheld device capable of simulating the cigarette experience. However, in 2003 a Chinese pharmacist named Hon Lik recreated the invention with his own twist. The company he worked for, Golden Dragon Holdings, quickly moved to patent the product. Within a year, the first electronic cigarettes were rolling off the assembly line.
Today, more than 500,000 people use e-cigarettes. The beauty of the e-cig lies in its ability to realistically convince a smoker that they're smoking an actual cigarette, a difficult feat to accomplish. But recent micro-electric technology has assisted in the ability to miniaturize the circuitry needed to operate electronic cigarettes, and many of today's models have the taste, look, and feel of real cigarettes. For those that wish not to draw attention to themselves, more circumspect designs are available such as the popular pen-style. This way, vapers can get in a quick puff on the bus, in the theatre, or in many other places that conventional tobacco products aren't allowed.
An e-cig consists of a tube that's attached to a mouthpiece, which in turn contains a small amount of a mixture that vaporizes when heated. This mixture is mostly an organic compound called propylene glycol, which is a colorless, odorless liquid used as a solvent in many common pharmaceuticals and food colorings. It is also the same mixture used in smoke machines and cigar humidors. In e-cigarettes, the propylene glycol is usually used to dilute a nicotine solution, but it is also possible to purchase an e-cig that is nicotine-free.
Also, e-cigarettes use replaceable cartridges so you can always change your mind and try any one of the many different blends and flavors at your convenience. E-cig cartridges are available at half the cost of a pack of cigarettes, and last just as long so they'll save former smokers money in the long run. That's not the only benefit of e-cigarettes, either. Since smoking an e-cig produces only non-toxic vapor, there's no offensive odors or discoloration to deal with.
Furthermore, it's no secret that use of tobacco products can cause irreversible damage to almost every organ in the human body. Cancer, emphysema, and heart disease are just a few of the problems that smoking can cause, not to mention second-hand smoke. Fortunately, electronic cigarettes can boast of having none of these issues. Smokers don't have to feel embarrassed or guilty for indulging in their e-cig habit.
If you or someone you know is looking for a safe way to curb their cravings, look into electronic cigarettes.
