Have you ever thought about using voice recognition software for writing documents online instead of typing

? At first it sounds like a great idea, and an amazing way to save time. I always wondered how it would be, and actually got to try it out with Dictate voice recognition software. Here's a quick review.

It would be great if you could simply plug this software in, start talking and it types everything you say. Unfortunately you are going to have to wait a few years for these advancements, as it isn't that easy, yet. When setting up the software you will have to go through a few steps to let the software recognize your voice and understand how your sentences form when you speak. This process will only take a few minutes, but as you continue to use the software it will keep learning and match up your speech to words better.

In addition to voice to text, you can also give your computer commands, such as opening a web browser and saying the web site you would like to visit. Even if you don't find yourself using these commands, you will still think they are pretty cool!

Overall, I was surprised with the Dictate software and how well it convert my voice into text. In the end, I wound up going back to typing text as I'm more comfortable and quite fast at it. Though I can see this software being an excellent addition for doctors, entrepreneurs or anyone who wants to quickly get their thoughts down for future reference.
