Storage - Your Options
There are many types of storage device for storing data
, whether you want to store data online, on something physical or on something highly portable. Partly the option you choose will depend on budgetary constraints measured against precisely how much storage you need. But at the same time it will of course also reflect what you want your storage for. In some cases you will want your storage simply for storage - in order to make your laptop or phone have more space on which to store the programmes and you will likely not remove or detach that storage device. Alternatively you might want it for backup, in which case you will simply need something very secure, and depending on the size of your files, something with a large capacity. Finally you might want it for portability - so that you can carry your files with you wherever you go and thus use then across a range of machines in which case you will want to use either the cloud or something very small and portable. Here we will look at the storage options from 64GB SDXC to online backup and help you to guide your way through the myriad options.
Online storage: Online storage does what it says on the tin and gives you some space that can be accessed online to store your files. The great thing about using online storage is that it gives you a storage space that you can access at any time from any place without having to carry anything with you. This way you can lend almost unlimited data storage to any device and even if you forget to bring you data with you you can still access it no matter where you are in the world - so long as you have your passwords and a connection. At the same time you are unlikely to ever lose or damage this data, unlike a physical storage device which you can break or misplace. The downside is that with a slow connection, large files will be much slower to transfer and if your connection goes down you'll be left with no access. At the same time sometimes it can simply be nicer to be able to hold your files from a psychological point.
64GB SDCX: With a 64GB SDCX you have a storage card that is as large as your SIM card which can contain a whopping 64GB of memory. This is no mean feet and means that you can carry around with you your entire music collection, a series of films, all your photos and tonnes of applications all on one tiny card. They are so light that you can carry hundreds and still not really feel the weight and so small that you can store them anywhere. They are also compatible with most devices from computes to phones to mp3 players to gaming devices.
32GB Micro SDHC: When a 64GB SDCX isn't compatible with a device, it's usually because they use Micro SD instead (unless its Apple who are just stubborn and determined to limit their own hardware capabilities). A 32GB micro SDHC card is smaller than the regular SD at around half the size making it perfect for mobile phones and other potable systems. However it is also far easier to lose and much easier to break meaning that other methods of storage still have their place.
Portable hard drive: Finally a portable hard drive is also a very useful device. These give you a far greater amount of storage space that you can save your files on, as well as great security so that you can be sure that you won't lose them. This makes them perfect for backing up your disks or for storing large media files you don't need constant access to.
