, depending on the location of your residence. Motorcycle enthusiasts price their vehicles and winter robs them of the joy of riding. It also prepares them for the task of safely storing their bikes so they maintain their beauty and appeal, as well as their performance for when it is time again to hit the road. It is extremely important to follow proper storage procedures to ensure that moisture, corrosion, and extreme freezing temperatures do not damage the motorcycle - if that is the case. A bike most be cleaned before putting it in storage. Getting rid of debris and dirt that might damage or rub the paint is a most. One should also polish it to prevent moisture and dust to stick to the paint, as it will be stored for months. This is a good time to touch up any nicks or scratches in the paint, to get it ready for riding season.

This is also a great time to perform a tune up. At least, an oil and filter change are a must, to prevent debris and dirt from used oil to set and damage the system and rubber seals, resulting on engine malfunction in the future.

Use fuel stabilizer or the manufacturer recommended type to ensure that moisture does not accumulate in the fuel systems.

For longer storage times, it might be necessary to protect the pistons and ring cylinders from rust caused by moisture, so oiling them with clean engine oil or oil spray must be done. This is done by removing the spark plugs, putting the oil, grounding the ignition leads, and turning the engine a few times so the oil spreads. After that, replace the spark plugs.

Moisture accumulates in the tail pipe, causing rust; therefore, it is important to use WD-40 to protect it. If bugs or uninvited guests want to make a nest of the tail pipe, blocking it with plastic bags might be a good idea.

Keeping the battery charged to get it ready for riding season is important; therefore, cleaning the leads and using a battery tender during storage is another necessary step.

Change your brake fluid and hydraulic clutch fluid. Change your coolant as well.

Clean and lubricate the chain.

Some motorcycles have a centre stand to keep them off the ground and preserve the tires during storage. If not, use wood blocks to keep of the ground. Fill the tires to the maximum according to recommendations in your bike's manual.

By performing these tips your bike will be ready for riding season and will last longer.
