We have all heard it before - You Are What You Eat

. But is it something you have really thought about? Do you think about it when you have to make food choices?

It some ways we can literally see that we are what we eat. How about looking at your blood plasma after eating fast food, such as a hamburger? Before the food it was a clear liquid. It becomes cloudy due to the fat and cholesterol, which is absorbed by the body from the hamburger.

We also become what we don't eat. When we switch from eating meat to a vegetarian based diet, we have less fat on our bodies, and we reduce our risk of some cancers. Certainly our cholesterol can improve. Health and fitness problems are lessened, including Type II diabetes. Blood pressure falls. These positive effects mean less medications, therefore saving you money.

Some people turn to vegetarianism and still do not care about their diet. It is worth mentioning that even vegetarians have to make sensible choices. Giving up beef but replacing it with cheddar cheese will be detrimental to your body; cheddar cheese is 70%.

However, if you give up beef and eat more legumes, such as lentils and pulses. There are a great many varieties of lentils, so if one does not agree with you, do not give up on all lentils. Lentils have 1% fat per 100 grams of raw lentils, and this is a fantastic alternative to beef, chicken, and lamb.

Be careful with supermarket meat-free alternatives, because to make them taste good they are usually packed with both salt and fat. You would be much better off cooking your own vegetarian recipes.

If your family suffer from these illnesses then you must look at your eating habits seriously. A vegetarian diet has shown to shrink the incidence of serious diseases. vegetarians are often healthier and live longer.

It is time to think about what you want and eat accordingly. You do not want to feel sluggish all the time, and you do not want to be fat either. Animal products with their high fat content can put paid to your plans. It is not too late to make things better for yourself, by changing to a vegetarian diet and enjoying the benefits of a longer life.
