Stress Health

As our society is ever increased with the daily hustle and bustle of increased work loads, competition to stay ahead of the other guy, lay offs, down sizing, reports, due ins, profit loss chart its become virtually impossible to avoid stress.

Stress is a perfectly natural response mechanism, however just because it's natural does not make it normal. Stress is part of the fight or flight response mechanism that is built into every person and animal. In animals it can be observed by in the plains of Africa when a predator stalks its prey. The predators adrenal glands pumps adrenaline through the body and gives the predator super strength for a short period of time to over power his prey. The stress is also triggered in the prey through the same mechanism and gives the prey the flight response and the adrenaline gives the prey extra strength to run for his life(literally).

Just because the stress is natural does not make it normal or healthy for that matter. Stress is not something that human beings are designed to feel daily or at night instead of sleeping for that matter. Nor is stress something that is designed to be felt multiple times a day for prolonged durations. Stress is something that can cause many side effects including weight gain, emotional problems, mental problems, and even in some cases death. Stress has actually been shown to be one of the leading causes of obesity today. It is something that is very important to learn to control.

Reduce Stress #1

Find the biggest stresser (the thing that causes you the most stress) that you experience daily and eliminate it. Just simply quit doing the thing that causes you the most stress. Now I know that you can't always eliminate it entirely, in that case try to mitigate it as much as possible. But if its things like work or a spouse I know you can't eliminate those so here are some more tips on reducing stress throughout your day.

Reduce Stress #2

Remember to breathe. Sounds simple right? Well it actually is however all too often we forget to do it. Don't just do this exercise when you feel stressed, but try it as a way to prevent stress as well. Set a reminder for yourself for 3 different times during your day when you usually feel stress and at these times kick back in your chair and close your eyes, forget about your environment for just one minute. Literally only do this for 1 minute, however you may want to add a minute or two depending on how you feel but at first just one minute is all you need. And breathe... Take deep slow breathes in and hold it for a second and breathe out. Then do again and again with your eyes closed and let your body relax. It only takes a minute out of your day but that minute can very well improve your overall performance for the whole day.

When we breathe we increase the oxygen levels in our blood stream which is the lifeline and life flow of our existence. The extra oxygen in our blood pumps through our muscles and helps them relax. The increased oxygen flow also increases oxygen and blood flow to the brain allowing the brain to become more productive, and also reduces the adrenaline flow through the body. Overall this is the single most important thing you can do for your body to help reduce stress.

Reduce Stress #3

Drinking a liter of water as the first thing you do in the morning can actually lead to reducing stress throughout the day. This is for similar reasons as the breathing. Water pumps through the body and acts as a cooling system and enables your muscular system. What this means is its like the coolant you put in your car to keep your engine from overheating. Water acts the same way and keeps your internal systems cool and calm and ready to perform properly. It also adds water to your muscles which pumps out lactic acid and other build up of stress producing acids. This allows your muscles to relax and to take less effort to perform their daily job properly.

Reduce Stress #4

Stretching and exercise is so important. I can't even stress (no pun intended) on just how incredibly important this is. Just simply 20 to 30 minutes a day of an aerobic exercise will significantly reduce your stress felt throughout the day, not to mention the added benefits of weight loss and other benefits as well.

When you exercise you get the blood flowing and start to pump out all the bad acids from your muscles and body as well. This also releases just a little adrenaline just enough to push you to a new level and build a resistance against stress. Yes! Thats right, not only will it de-stress you while you exercise it will actually help build a resistance or an endurance against reactionary stress throughout the day.

Stretching is also important as it helps your muscles recover from the exercise performed for improved future performance and also helps to relax your muscles and your body overall. In fact it is a good idea to practice breathing while you stretch.
