Studies Show There Is A Need For Rehab Clinics In Buckinghamshire

A recent study in Buckinghamshire found that substance abuse within African-Caribbean

and Asian communities, is on the increase and is not just confined to British people. It also found that there was an increase amongst gay and lesbian users.

It can be especially difficult for those from minority countries or as a gay or lesbian to find the help they need. For some religions alcohol and drugs are banned within their culture and so for many of those people from that type of background suffering with an addiction, the subject is taboo and they don't know where to turn to for help and advice.

For many people with an addiction to alcohol or drugs, acceptance is the first step on their road to recovery, should they want to take it. Recovery is a life-long path and in order to obtain an abstinence lifestyle, you will need much help and support.

There are many rehab clinics and support groups throughout Buckinghamshire who are able to offer users of alcohol or drugs a chance to turn their lives around and be free from their addiction regardless of your colour, race or sex.

Most rehab clinics offer a detox programme to start with, followed by a therapeutic programme. A minimum stay of 28 days is advised for a residential programme but the longer you can stay in the treatment centre the better. The recommended time is 3 months. This will give you an alcoholic or addict a chance to withdraw safely and with medical supervision from the substance they are addicted to and to then learn to adjust to living a new way of life.

Buckinghamshire has a fantastic support network for those wishing to kick their alcohol dependency or drug addiction. They offer group support networks where people can get together and share the experiences and thoughts on addiction and alcohol abuse. Because the majority of alcoholics and addicts have a psychological dependence to that substance as well as physical, it's a good idea to have a good support network.

It is very common that most drinkers or users initially started using to self-medicate in order to try and mask underlying mental health issues they have been facing. That's why with professional help, these problems needs to be tackled. Removing the alcohol or substance from one's body is one thing, dealing with the issues deep down within a person is another.
