Study shows most employers will maintain or increase workforce in next year

Despite recent news that there has only been a slight improvement in unemployment figures, a recent study has shown that 94% of employers expect to either maintain or increase their permanent workforces in the next 12 months.

In a bid to improve performance organisations have been focused on staff changes and structural reorganisation, but this was undermining the investment in developing leadership talent and retaining their high performers.

Only one in six (16%) surveyed businesses which made at least executive and senior level personnel change had succeeded in outperforming their key performance objectives during 2009, revealed a recent report.

In contrast, 39% of leaders in organisations that had resisted change in the leadership team, had succeeded in outperforming their objectives throughout 2009.

The report also showed that high performing employees and executives were unsettled and were 10% more likely to leave their companies today than a year ago. One in four indicated that they planned to move on in the next 12 months.

Meanwhile, the study revealed that training and succession plans had not delivered their requirements, a massive four out of five (84%) of identified successors were not yet ready to step into the executive role that they had been nominated for.

As the global economy exits the recession European companies are re-evaluating their readiness for outstanding future performance, but the collective focus needs to be on ensuring that the impact of any structural changes upon the ability of executive employees to do their jobs effectively, is factored into the planning process.
