Stun Guns-ten Tips You Should Know Before You Buy

Stun guns are part of a fast-growing group of products used for self defense

. They are great for self defense for women and senior self defense. The stun gun is nothing more than a hand-held device with two or more prongs on one end that conduct an electrical charge.

When applied to an assailant for as little as 3 to 5 seconds the electrical charge basically short-circuits the body and causes it to over work depleting it of all blood sugars needed for energy.

The assailant can do little more than curl up in a ball. Too bad!

Before you buy a stun gun here are some things you should know about them

1. Like all self defense products they are just meant to give you time to get away from a dangerous situation.

2. A stun gun will incapacitate an assailant for 5 to 10 minutes.

3. No long-lasting damage is done.

4. Like pepper sprays, stun guns are on average 86% effective.

5. Stun guns range from $30 to as high as $90. Most are in the $30-$60 price range.

6. Unlike pepper sprays, which have a range of up to 25 feet a stun gun must be physically applied to an assailant to be effective.

7. It is easy to use with usually nothing more than a safety switch to be turned off and a trigger to be pressed.

8. Some stun guns are rechargeable but most are battery operated.

9. Stun guns are illegal in some states.

10. And finally some stun guns are disguised which gives you an added advantage in a tactical situation of surprise.

Follow these tips before you buy a stun gun and you will be in a much better position to choose the one that is right for you. There are literally thousands to choose from.

When are you getting one?

I always advise that if you feel threatened by an assailant point a charging stun gun at him and hold it up for the bad guys to see the flying current and hear the sounds. A 'back off' warning may scare him away when he sees what you have. From a distance the crackling noise alone and blue sparks that stun guns give off when activated may be enough to keep attackers at bay.

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The "other guy" is thinking the same thing and to him you are that "other guy". There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!

Chances are if you are reading this that crime has touched your life in some way or you consider yourself at risk. Take the next step and do something to protect yourself! Your life and safety is worth far more than the cost of one of these.
