It is a usual sight to see those dark circles under you eyes

. Because your eyelids and the skin surrounding your eyes are particularly sensitive and delicate, these can respond rapidly to causative environmental factors.

But there is not enough reason to grow accustomed to it. Nature has formulated its own avenues to surpass this all-too-familiar dilemma.

Lifestyle, heredity, and poor diet all contribute to the presence of dark circles. This results to a tired, worn-out appearance typical in people who engage in hard labor, stressful occupations, and those who are workaholics. Aside from that, these dark circles may cause wrong impressions about disinterest and loss of vigor.

Heredity may play a central role in the appearance of dark circles. This would pertain to the characteristic leakiness of blood vessels (especially capillaries) that are present in the eye area. This leakiness may be due to aging, or may be a trait that can be passed from one generation to another. Blood which leaked out of the capillaries starts to oxidize, resulting to a dark bluish tint around the eye area. As time passes by, accumulation of these oxidized blood results to further darkening of the eye area.


In pursuit of the perfect remedy for dark under eyes, home remedies are being formulated but these are not proven to be as fast and effective as dark circle under eye creams. Despite its being inexpensive and its high availability, home remedies are not the exact answer to the problem. They can however help you get through as you wait until you come up with the right under eye cream which can provide long-lasting effects.

The typical home remedy for under eye circles is composed of tea bags and cucumbers (as seen in movies and commercials): these natural products are known to reduce inflammation and decrease puffiness. Tannin, a component in tea, is associated with reduction of puffiness.

Aside from the typical tea-cucumber sight, another home-based remedy may include wrapping a grated raw potato in cheese cloth, and afterwards applying to the eyelids for as long as 15-20 minutes. It can also be in sliced form (and even chilled if preferred). Chilled forms provide extra relief to the eyes aside from reducing puffiness. After the procedure, follow-up with wiping off of the residue and application of eye cream. This may be more effective if done on a regular basis, at bedtime.


A healthy diet is also necessary: usually composed of dairy products and green vegetables as well as fruits. Iron-rich food helps decrease the likelihood of iron-deficiency anemia in women, which is also linked to the presence of dark under eye circles. Fiber-rich foods and fruits serve as antioxidants, and are therefore helpful not just in improving the skin in the eye area, but to the overall well-being of the consumer as well.

If you consider the option of using concealers in temporarily hiding these blemishes, take your time top choose the best colors. The top concealer to use is preferably a shade lighter than your foundation. If the circles are awfully dark, then it may be necessary to choose a color that is two shades lighter. A raccoon look is the consequence of choosing a concealer that is too light for your blemishes.

Most importantly, consult a dermatologist before undergoing any major treatment, especially those which are invasive (e.g. laser surgery). A physician may share relevant ideas too important to miss. But then, the safest way to get rid of dark circles in the under eye area may be via the natural route!
