Success, Prosperity and You!

I know prosperity is what we all would like to possess

, and what too many of us are lacking. When we think of prosperity, I suppose the first thing that pops into mind is money. The thought of money, and all those delightful things money buys, awaken the excitable, salacious parts of our nature, and gets the adrenalin pumping. Few things can push us faster into action than the desire for money. However, what most of us neglect in our pursuit of the dollar is considering the whole person. Too many chase after the Goddess Prosperity as if it were a thing apart from their own selves. Prosperity ? in the sense of money ? is not something that is 'out there,' waiting to be seized and captured. Prosperity begins right with the individual. You embody the greatest source of all the elements required for achieving your dreams. What you are seeking, the assets you bring to the pursuit, what you are doing to acquire your goals, and how you go about it are all integral parts of the process. The acquisition of money itself is a byproduct of all these things. As we have heard a gazillion times, money does not buy happiness. But what does buy happiness, as well as success, are your unique gifts. Actually, the pursuit is more important and more enriching than the coveted end goal of becoming rich. Sadly, some New Thought teachings about prosperity, which have been snapped up by so many, are centered in a shallow vision of materiality. The book 'The Secret' extolled such a vision and encouraged us to seek the ends while giving little consideration to the means. Not that the book encouraged criminal behavior, which it definitely did not; but it certainly encouraged a notion of wealth for its own sake, as if the individual had little more to do than to just ask for or 'treat for' it. You were taught the principles of how to become a material addict, as you treated for the new expensive car, the luxury home, the better job, a new partner or lover, or whatever your ambition. Just work the principles like you might learn to work any system. The problem with focusing solely on acquiring wealth is that in the intense pursuit of acquiring it, once the goal is realized, an emptiness soon sets in. And in order to obliterate this uncomfortable, nagging emptiness, another goal is set, and the pursuit is on again. One may acquire the beautiful home in the wealthy neighborhood, and still feel a need to acquire a bigger, more expensive home in an even better location. Or it could be the newest, most expensive foreign car, or any number of other things. This sort of addiction has no end. In the mad pursuit for bigger and better, that empty hole in the center of one's being only grows larger and larger. Money itself can never replace what faith in yourself and in your uniqueness can accomplish. Our mistake in this very materialistic society has been our faith in things, and not in our own inner resources. When you are able to see who you really are and what you are truly capable of, a positive attitude will just naturally flow from you, and what you need and what you desire will come to you, or you will stumble upon it. This is creative living at its best. This is affirmation of life. Opening yourself to your own great potential is what it is all about. This is the route to the Land of Happiness and Fulfillment. You are your own source of abundance and enrichment. You have it all within you ? the talent, the skills, the drive, the desire, the energy, and the determination. As long as these fuel your actions, you cannot miss eventually acquiring the material wealth you desire. When you operate in alignment with your unique 'you,' the whole universe will serve to support you and provide whatever resources are needed to make your goal a reality. On the other hand, when you are out of alignment with your best or highest self, the opposite becomes true as well. If you are going after an objective that worked for your friend, but does not fit who you really are, you may still acquire the wealth you are seeking. However, in winning this way, you actually lose, because the level of frustration and hardship you suffered in the pursuit, which you may continue to suffer, does not allow you to enjoy the pleasure of winning. If you have no talent for music, you can never become a concert pianist. And if you have no talent for math, you'll never make it as an astronomer. It may have worked out just fine for your friend, but for sure it is never going to work for you. You cannot be what you are not. As a very wise man named William Shakespeare once said, "To thine own self be true." Sometimes emulating someone else, because you admire that person's conduct or morals, is a good thing; but to take it so far as to emulate how they live their lives in terms of the work they do or the lifestyle they pursue is a big mistake. This inevitably invites hardship, struggle, bitterness, and defeat. In order to achieve happiness, success, and wealth, you have to operate in alignment with who you are, in alignment with your own unique calling. When you operate in alignment with that, the pursuit of your personalized goal is just about assured. I say "just about," because no one can guarantee your success. However, when you are on the right wavelength, everything generally falls into place easily and effortlessly. In other words, what I've been saying here is that you've got to 'do it your way.'
