The salinity of water is regarded as the main reason behind the man-eating tendency of these tigers. Apart from these tigers, a visit to Sunderban can also ensure a glimpse of Chitals, Fox, Flying Fox, Wild Boar, Fishing cats Jungle cats etc. Not only mammals, Sunderban houses a wide variety of birds like Coots, Marsh Harriers, Spotted Doves, Open Billed Storks, Caspian Terns, Woodpeckers, Common Kingfishers, Common Snipes, Green Pigeons, etc. In addition to this a Sunderban visit will also make one acquainted with fish like Star fish, crabs, prawns, Gangetic Dolphins, Elecctric Rays etc. Reptiles, which include Sea Snakes, Monitor Lizards, Pythons, Estuarine Crocodiles, Green Turtles are also found here. The forest variety consists of mainly mangrove trees, goran trees, littoral forest and many others. It is because of this great array of bio-diversity, that Sunderban is a paradise for enthusiasts of jungle tourism.

Being a home, to such a huge variety of bio-diversity, it is only natural that lovers of jungle tourism adore this site. Added to this is the Bhagabatpur Crocodile Project which, apart from being the home to biggest estuarine crocodiles, is also a hatchery and sanctuary of crocodiles. There are cruises for the tourists, through the dark, deep parts of the terrain to give them a real close experience of the dangerous terrain. These cruises are well-equipped with modern facilities, like bed, bathroom and good food to ensure a hassle free ride and give them a real taste of jungle tourism. A tiger sighting cannot be promised to the tourists but they can surely have a one-of-its-kind experience while traveling through the marshy swamp. There are jungle camps, hotels and resorts for the tourists with state-of the-art facilities.

Rainfall is heavy between mid-June to mid September and hence the best time to visit Sunderban would be between October to March. A visit to Sunderban is fairly easy as the place is well-connected by road, air and water. Netaji Subhash International Airport at Dumdum is the closest airport to Sunderban. Regarded as a Tiger Reserve as well as a National park, this World Heritage site is hailed as the centre of jungle tourism in India.
