Super Visa Application For Canada
Canada is one of the most attractive countries for immigrants in the world
. It is a prosperous country with a flexible immigration policy. It welcomes people of different ethnicities and nationalities. Since 2001, 220,000-260,000 immigrants have entered the country annually.
Immigrants typically petition for their other family members to either visit or permanently stay in their new home country. Many countries will not allow this because admitting too many immigrants may later create problems for natural-born citizens who will then have competition for government financial assistance, employment opportunities, and so on and so forth. By creating this type of visa, the Canadian government has come up with a good compromise that will allow the parents and grandparents of immigrants to visit their relatives in Canada for a long period of time, albeit only temporarily.
First introduced in December 2011, the Super Visa gives people the opportunity to stay in the country for a maximum of two years at a time. The visa expires after 10 years.
Who Can Apply?
The Super Visa is only available to parents and grandparents (and their spouses) of immigrants who have already been granted permanent residency in Canada. Non-Canadian parents and grandparents (and their spouses) of Canadian citizens can also apply for this visa. Any other family member who wishes to have a Canadian visa will have to apply for a Temporary Residence Visa (TRV).
Applicants coming from TRV countries will no longer need to constantly renew their Temporary Residence Visas every six months. Those who come from TRV-exempt countries will receive an official letter from the CIC stating their Super Visa application has been granted.
How to Apply
The procedure is actually the same as applying for a regular visa. Applicants need to apply first for a TRV at the Canadian Immigration Visa Office in their country. Those who don't have a TRV can apply for both the TRV and Super Visa simultaneously. They must fill in form IMM5257 or Application for a Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada, and comply with the requirements for a TRV.
In order to proceed, applicants will also need to meet other requirements and provide other supporting documentation that shows that the applicant's family in Canada will be wholly responsible for his or her well-being while staying in the country. Furthermore, the applicant should be able to convince the visa officer that his or her stay in the country will only be temporary, and that after the maximum allowable stay of two years, he or she will return to his or her home country.
In summary, there are four primary requirements demanded by the Canadian Immigration Visa Office for a Super Visa application:
1. Proof of relationship between the parent/grandparent and the child permanently living in Canada.
2. Coverage of at least $100,000 of medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company for at least one year. This insurance is also known as Super Visa insurance.
3. A notarized invitation from the son/daughter permanently residing in Canada.
4. Proof that the son/daughter of income is well above the Low-Income Cut Off.
There is an eight-week processing period, but of course that can vary depending on the office where the application is filed. After checking the requirements and confirming the eligibility of an applicant, a scheduled interview with a visa officer may or may not be arranged. The visa office will also send instructions on where the applicant needs to go for a medical check-up.
If the applicant fails the medical examination or the interview, his or her visa application will be denied. The visa office will then return the applicant's passport and other supporting documents submitted for the Super Visa.
