Supermarecross, The Last Boost To Gabicce Mares Tourism Before Christmas
Gabicce Mare hosted this October the day fans of motorbikes and engines
, as well as the touristic structures of Gabicce had been awaiting for months. The event, the Supermarecross Gaetano di Stefano Trophy, has brought to the beaches of this town in the Adriatic coast a last boost before the visitors of the winter season arrive.
The championship started in Bacoli in February and has since then travelled around the country for other five stages of competition in Francavilla al Mare, Bibione, Gioia Tauro, Gabicce Mare and Giardini Naxos, in the South of Italy for the grand finale.
The Italian International Championship of Supermarecross 2011 has brought together contestants from around the world to compete in the sand of various Italian beaches. The most represented group, Italian riders, that on top of playing at home are a reflection of the passion that off-road cross competitions ignite in the Italian public.
The Belpaese confirmed its status as one of the most powerful players worldwide in this type of cross-country motorcycling, getting to second place in the latest Motocross of Nations behind the United States and surpassing France, Belgium and the potent Australia.
The novelty of this years edition of the Italian Supermarecross championships was the organization of a night race in Bibione, the third and only stage in the Veneto region and that put an end to the first round of the competition.
The contention in Gabicce Mare ended up anticipating the winners of two of the titles before the grand finale in Giardini Naxos. Manfredi Caruso of the KTM-Pardi Racing team won the 125 category after having overcome the difficulties during the first stages of the competition. Antonio Caruso of the Honda-Team Motors/Pardi celebrated the victory in MX2 forgetting the casualty that kept him away of the roads for a long time.
The other categories champions had to fight until the end to celebrate their victory. Giuseppe Tropepe of the KTM-T.D.R. team easily dominated the Minicross round after his strongest competitor left the competition. Felice Compagnone from the Honda-Pardi Racing arrived first in the MX1 ranking and took home the Coast to Coast trophy, the prize for the best rider among the first ten contestants of the MX1 and MX2.
The championship has offered, this year too, exciting races at high speed in the various scenarios of the stages, a great show for the lovers of supercross and for the inhabitants of the nearby towns of the Riviera Romagnola and the Marche region that have travelled to Gabicce to see the contestants in this particular land field.
The event has also given a boost to the local tourism in Gabicce and the other towns of the area. Even if the data for this years summer does not indicate a decrease in the number of visitors, the area has surely benefited from the public that has arrived in the Ardiatic Riviera as a result of the Italian International Championship of Supermarecross 2011.
Positive results therefore, not only for the Italian contestants but also for the fans of the sport and the restaurants and hotels of Gabicce Mare. An experience, the majority says, to be repeated next year.
