Surviving Disneyland
A vacation to Disneyland is a unique and exciting experience for the entire family
. No matter your age, there will be something behind those massive gates that will appeal to the kid in your heart - after all, the kid inside Walt himself designed the park. A couple of things to keep in mind when you're planning your trip to the Disneyland Resort though - the immense size of the park as well as the worldwide popularity results in it being a very busy place. Hosting more than 14 million visitors every year, it's not uncommon to become lost or overwhelmed by the chaos. So here are a few things that can be done to make your visit memorable for all the right reasons.
Disneyland is a huge complex, spanning several acres, and there is a lot of walking involved. Know what the conditions are ahead of time, and dress accordingly; it's important that all members of your family wear comfortable walking shoes; appropriate footwear for multiple hours of strolling and standing. Make sure clothing is comfortable, breathable, and can hold up to a few soft ice cream stains or soakings from Splash Mountain. Don't wear any valuables or electronics that might be lost or stolen; the park is very busy, and it's already hectic enough to keep track of your family members. There is no point in bringing your unnecessary valuables with you, only to worry about them, especially when they can be left behind in a secure environment.
On the subject of keeping track of family members, it's important to have a game plan. This is especially vital if you are visiting for the first time, and have small children in tow. Little children are likely to be easily distracted and excitable and more likely to wander away. So, sit down with your kids before you get anywhere near the park and impress the importance of staying together--if you wait until you're at the gates, your kids may be too excited to pay attention! Establish a meeting spot where you can all reconvene if you get separated, and make sure every family member knows how to find that spot. Disneyland has a Lost Children center in the Main Street U.S.A section of the park, where kids are taken if they're found wandering. Let your kids know about this service, so that if they do end up lost, they will know what to do: a Park Employee is the one to ask in how to get there.
Finally, make sure that you're all properly equipped with hats, sunscreen, and lots of water. Disneyland is a very busy place, and with so much going on it's very easy to lose track of time. Sunburn, dehydration, and hunger can all creep up on you without much warning, but their effects can threaten to ruin your fun day. So set a timer to remind everyone to reapply sunscreen, carry water bottles with you, and having a few snacks in your bag won't hurt either. With a few steps, you can ensure that your family's trip to the Happiest Place on Earth is magical, fun, and relaxing.
