Symptoms of PMS are both physical and emotional. Common physical symptoms are acne, PMS bloating, tender breasts, insomnia or the inability or trouble sleeping, constipation and diarrhea. There can be food carvings and changes in a woman's appetite. Some may have joint and muscle pain. Some women may have trouble concentrating and have short term memory loss. The most common emotional symptom is depression.


Diagnosing PMS is based on its symptoms. When it occurs and how does it affect a woman's everyday life. These symptoms may vary from different women.

Though PMS can't be avoided, there are a number of remedies available to relieve the symptoms. These include medications as prescribed, changing your lifestyle, and some alternative therapies. Medications like hormonal drugs and pills will help relieve the physical symptoms. But you need to consult your doctor especially on severe cases of PMS.


If PMS symptoms if not so bad at all, you don't need to see a doctor. You just have to change your lifestyle to ease the symptoms. Exercising regularly will lessen muscle spasms and regulates normal blood flow. Eat healthy foods like fruits, vegetables and grains. Avoid salty foods, alcohol and caffeine. Try to sleep at least 8 hours every night. Avoid smoking.

There are healthy ways to cope with stress. Like talking to your friends, exercising, or doing yoga. Writing a journal or listening to a calming music is also a big help. These will help relieve anxiety and depression.

Alternative therapies like vitamins and minerals may have been found to relieve PMS symptoms. This includes folic acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin B3 and vitamin E can relieve symptoms like PMS bloating. There are also a number of herbal supplements available in the market. You just have to pick which is best suited for your needs. You don't have to ignore your symptoms of PMS if you have a lot of remedies to choose from.
