Symptoms of High Cholesterol - Be Aware of the Danger Signs
Do you wonder what the symptoms of high cholesterol are? Having an elevated cholesterol level is not considered a condition, yet it leads to more serious things. Heart attacks and strokes are usually directly caused by having too much cholesterol. Cholesterol is often very hard to monitor since most of it comes from the food we eat. This may sound easy to do, yet many of us still cannot avoid putting on the extra cholesterol in our bodies. It just so happens that the best-tasting foods, the ones that are our favorites, usually contain the most cholesterol.
Having any symptom indicating high level of cholesterol is very rare. Usually it will not be detected until you take a blood test. When someone does show symptoms, the most common would be angina. Angina is never the same for each person; having it may consist of mainly chest pain, weakness, nausea, sweating, palpitations, and pain in the arms, neck or jaw. All of this is an indication of not enough blood flow to the heart. The blood flow in the veins and arteries is affected because of the extra cholesterol stored in them. Having your blood flow completely blocked will result in either a heart attack or stroke.
Finding actual symptoms of an elevated level of cholesterol is very difficult because there are none which points to high cholesterol directly. However, in very rare cases, you can have something called xanthelasma. If you have xanthelasma, it is absolutely definite you have the high level of cholesterol. Xanthelasma is cholesterol deposits which are manifested as yellow patches on the skin. These are usually located near the eyes. Having xanthelasma is not common, yet it is very easy to spot. Many have tried to surgically remove these patches and failed. Usually these patches will return. It is recommended to avoid xanthelasma in the first place, or rather too much cholesterol in general.
There are really no symptoms to signify higher cholesterol levels, yet these are some hints you can follow. If you are unsure or doubting your cholesterol levels, the best and sure thing to do is to have your blood tested. You may ask your doctor to perform this test for you. If you have high cholesterol, do not feel alarmed. Knowing you have it is the first step for change. You will have direction in your ways to prevent heart attacks and strokes from happening to you.
