Take Great Photographs of People

Very many people nowadays are involved in digital photography

. Since the arrival of cell phone cameras, everyone and their dog wants to become amateur photographers. That's great! However there is more to digital photography than meets the eye. It's not just taking photos and capturing the moment, it's about making sure that that particular moment is one you want to recall and appreciate through the years.

To do that you need to be able to take shots that are both memorable and engaging. It's not just the technical aspects and the equipment that you use. It is also about the kind of shots you take, whether they are lively, expressive, memorable and different. To do this you'll need to give perhaps more thought to the composition of your pictures, although this doesn't mean that they need look artificially posed.

There are a few tips here that should help you take better photos of the people around you. They are mostly common sense but it may help to have a reminder. I do hope that you will find some of the tips useful and that they will make the family photo album an infinitely more interesting resource for everyone to dip into.

* Take candid shots

It is very satisfying when you have managed to capture a moment - not because you asked them to pose - but because you were there at the right place and at the right time. Candid shots will allow people to see beneath artificial smiles and they can then perceive the real person, caught unawares. Such a picture has character and personality. It also tells a far more interesting story than perhaps a shot of your sister smiling stiffly and posing in front of a too obviously carefully chosen background.

Candid shots are priceless. They are permanent, constant records of those previous moments that have long passed. They are reminders to people of how they felt at the precise time when the picture was taken - it was captured in the photo.

* Indirect shots

Sometimes, when doing photo shoots,you could try taking pictures of people when they are looking away from the camera. It can be much more out of the ordinary than face on photos and also, more dramatic. Pictures with subjects that are not in the forefront can also be more fascinating, because they get the viewer's attention to see what the subject is looking at. The viewer is more inclined to study the picture to try to see where the subject's attention is focused and in this way they gain a different perspective on the whole picture.

* Action shots

Your photo will appear more dynamic if there is movemen by the subjects in the picture. Even if they are not candid shots and you are asking the subjects to pose for you, why not ask them to move, they can dance, jump or whatever you think wil make a good shot, instead of having them just standing or sitting. The subjects will probably be more relaxed and natural and the action will produce an animated feeling in the picture.
