Sleep is an important aspect of your life, because it affects your overall health and well-being

. Lack of sleep not only makes you cranky and less productive; but it also weakens your immune system and sets you up for illness like the flu. To sleep better, first figure out what is getting between you and your Zs. Then tackle the problem head on.

Sometimes the problem with getting great shut-eye comes down to your sleeping area. First and foremost, your mattress needs to be a comfortable place that holds your body in the right way to help you relax enough to sleep soundly. Getting yourself a natural mattress may be the solution to your sleep problems. Believe it or not, a natural mattress does help you sleep better. The reason why is because the organic materials used to create a natural mattress are generally more comfortable than the springs used to make traditional mattresses.

Of the types of organic mattresses on the market, latex mattresses are a big hit right now. Dust mites are kept out of latex mattresses just because of the composition of this type of mattress. This means that your bed is free of the nasty little creatures that feed on your dead skin cells. For years, it would seem as though dust mites were just a part of the home. Stress from the office, school or relationships can get in the way of a good night's sleep. When you are stressed at bed time, it is difficult to get your brain to shut down as it tries to solve issues you are experiencing. Your relaxation exercises can continue all night, until the minute you fall asleep. As your evening comes to an end, turn off the television a little sooner and grab a good book or spend some time meditating. Yes, this may seem extreme because in our society we like to be "plugged in"; but meditation is extremely healthy and a great way to set yourself up for restful sleep.

To live your best life takes more than eating right and exercising. It's not all about how you look but also about how you feel and how productive you are. To reach optimal health, you need to have optimal sleep. Take care of that, and you'll feel great!
