Taking Care Of Your Yellow Lab Puppy

You have never thought about what type of dog you need

, and the only thing that is running through your mid is the four legged cutie that your neighbor has bought. The yellow Labrador that you saw today at the pet store is still fresh in your memory asking you to give him a home, and you barely have the power to resist the temptation and go get it from the store.

You want to get a dog and now that the germ of an idea has taken root in your head, you want your dog now! However, you've heard so many horror stories about dogs and owners not properly matching together, and heartrending stories where the dogs are so cruelly abandoned that you do think twice about impulsively getting the yellow Lab puppy.

Since you do not have the intentions of getting a puppy so quickly into your life, a little bit of soul searching is what you can do about the Labrador breed of dogs. This needs to be done in order to ensure that you have a good idea regarding what to look for in a Lab puppy and what can be expected back from the puppy as it grows up into an adult dog.

So the first thing that you will want to know is that most dogs have a generally long lifespan and the Labrador breed itself can live up to 12-13 years, and obviously depending on the dog, this can vary and you might find that your dog lives for a good 18-19 years. These are of course not the norm, but the point here is that getting a dog is a lifetime commitment. You need to know that you won't get tired of the novelty of owning a dog and treat it carelessly or worse still abandon it.

Taking that out of the way, it is necessary that you look at all the characteristics that you want in your new Lab puppy. These characteristics can be very wide and varied, but one thing you will find is that Labradors are highly intelligent. Also they are very trainable and also have a very nice temperament. This is why they are very nice mates for handicapped people, and many Labradors are generally used for these purposes only.

Another thing that you need to understand is that Labradors are ideal for families having young children as they have a very gentle nature. If Labradors are left alone, overfed, or not exercised then they become sedentary in nature, and this is the last thing that you want to do to your highly energetic bundle of joy.

It is advised that you play with your puppy, exercise it thoroughly and also shower it with lots of affection and love and attention and this can assure that you would be awarded for your attention all through your life.
