Taking My Photography Journey To Higher Level

Taking My Photography Journey To Higher Level

My passion for photography was reignited in 2009 and I have been posting my pictures on my photography blog about my passion. I have learned a great deal along the way. I started with a digital camera that my son purchased for me and I was using it to take pictures of my recipes for my websiteand my blog. As my blog developed, I kept looking for a variety of topics to blog about. I realized that with the digital camera that I had, I lost a lot of opportunities because of the delay in each photo. It was quite annoying sometimes.

I was also having problems with the camera, the cover of the compartment for the batteries was not remaining closed (this model of camera did not use rechargeable batteries). So I had to us duck tape to keep the compartment close.

I remember as I was taking pictures for another blog about black hair, I lost a lot of opportunities as well because as I was taking pictures of the hair customer as they walked into the store (I used to work at a retail stationery store) most of them were busy so I had to be quick in taking the pictures and many times the camera would let me down.

I did get some great pictures with the camera and I learned a few great techniques as well. I eventually decided to get another camera so in 2009, my son was sailing to St. Maartin and I asked him to get one for me. He purchased a Nikon D60 DSLR. I am so proud of this camera. This camera took me to another level of my photography journey. I now have the opportunity to take pictures and not lose the moment. It is a lovely camera.

With this camera I have taken a lot of pictures and submitted to a local on line news paper company and quite a few of my pictures were selected as Photo Of The Day. The first time my photo was selected I was so elated that I had to share with all my friends.

As much as I love my Nikon D60, I realized there are occasions I would like to take pictures of objects, bird and animals but if I get too close the animals and birds would move away. Sometimes I have to get real close to a flower for instance to get a close up shot but then moving too close, the photo gets blurred.

So I realized that I need the ability to zoom in much more with my camera. So I did a search on You Tube and this quest took me to a new era. I learned that most cameras come with lens of approximately 18 -55 mm which is very limiting when taking pictures of birds for example. I learned that I would need lens with a scope of about 18-200mm and they are quite expensive. To be able to take pictures of birds without getting too close, if I am on a tight budget, I could get some close up filters.

So I think I will start with that get some close up filters and they do the same trick. These filters are quire inexpensive. This type of photography taking pictures of close up object/animals is called Macro/Close Up Photography. I really intrigued with this type of photography. As I look back at my photos and the ones that I think are really knock outs' are of close up objects/animals etc.

September 2010, I purchase a Pentax Optio WS 80, this one is to be kept in my handbag at all times because not every day I am able to walk with my Nikon D60. Simple as this camera is, it has more zoom capability than the Nikon D60 plus it is water proof and it can take videos.

A few days ago a friend of mine recommended me as the photographer for a Halloween Party but I needed enough to ask for time off at my work plus I did not have any Halloween props so I had to decline the offer. But as we all know with each close door another one opens.
