Driving tests are very stressful experiences for anyone, and once it is over we all breathe a great big sigh of relief. It is said to be the third most stressful thing that you will do, second only to moving house and getting married. And if you are at the age where you will be considering your driving test, then the other two seem a long way in the future, and this test is the most stressful in your life right now!

But for some people, the nerves are just too much and they have to take their test over and over again. Whether it be bad luck, nerves or a misjudgement, it's a confidence knock if you have to take your test again, let alone a huge expense.

For one learner driver, the ordeal was far more stressful, the examiner asked him to make an emergency stop, not realising there was a hard backed atlas on the parcel shelf. The learner made the manoeuvre, only for the map to come shooting forward, knocking the examiner out. The candidate took the examiner to the nearest casualty department, and no one knows if he passed his test.

On one young drivers test, he managed to drive into the side of the test centre, not even making it out to the open road to fail his test. Thinking his car was in reverse he accelerated and shot straight into the building. Luckily no one was injured but it was an instant fail as he was considered to be a danger to other road users. Another driver who was sitting his test in a vehicle with a sidecar took a turn too quickly, causing the side car to become detached from the vehicle and get embedded in a pile of tyres on the side of the road.
