Tanzania Safari Tips
Now that you have discovered that a Tanzanian safari is for you
, I thought I would prepare a few tips on how to best prepare for your Tanzanian adventure.
Research into the Tanzanian wildlife doing so will help you to decide the type of safari that you wish to go on. For example if you wish to see the big five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) then a guided safari in a 4x4 is what you will probably the type of safari that you will end up doing. However, if you want to see other animals such as hippos, giraffes, zebras and birds, then the type of safari you will be doing will perhaps be a guided walking safari in the Tanzanian bush.
Dont risk your health get all the required recommended vaccinations before you go to Tanzania including a prescription for an anti malarial prophylactic. You should invest in comprehensive travel insurance and medical insurance before travelling, making sure to check for any exclusions and to make sure that the policy you have purchased covers you for every activity that you wish to undertake especially for adventure sports and wildlife activities. Please also be completely honest when you are getting your insurance as failing to declare a medical condition can result in your policy being rendered invalid.
Weve all seen it on the news, an ash cloud a French air strike, a tour operator going bust protect your safari investment by purchasing your Tanzania safari on a credit card. With your travel insurance and with having bought your flights and holiday on your card you will be able to get a complete refund should the unthinkable happen and the trip get cancelled.
Bring a good, light pair of binoculars to allow you to spot a wider array of animals on your Tanzanian safari.
Make sure your camera is fully charged and that you bring spare batteries and some spare memory cards/ film for your camera as well as an inverter for a cars cigarette lighter to charge the camera batteries, just in case there are no generators at your camp site.
An important thing to remember is to not drink the tap water, make sure you drink plenty of bottle water; it is very easy to dehydrate under the strong Tanzanian sun whilst on safari. Dont worry about carrying bottle water with you on holiday, your tour operator will happily provide you with plenty of bottled water.
Bring insect repellent this will help to prevent mosquito bites as well as covering your arms and legs at dusk as mosquitoes are highly active at night time.
Safari clothing is casual, make sure that you bring lightweight clothes in neutral / earthy colours to blend in with nature and to reflect the suns powerful rays of sunlight. Make sure you bring a jumper for the morning, most safaris occur at either dusk or dawn and it can get rather chilly first thing in the morning.
I hope these tips have helped you before you set off on your Tanzania safari, if you have any of your own tips then please dont hesitate to comment and add your own.
