Tax Masters Charities - From Houston To Iraq
2010 has been a productive year for TaxMasters
, Inc. (TAXS). The year ended with employees pulling together to contribute over 150 gifts to 75 children in the Houston area who might not have received a gift for the holidays otherwise. Tax Masters was just one company among hundreds in Houston who participated in BEARing Gifts, the holiday program put on by BEAResource for CPS Kids, an organization dedicated to bringing help and hope to abused and neglected children and the Child Protective Services case workers charged with protecting them.
But this was only one charity among many that the company and employees contributed to in 2010. Here is a brief list of some noteworthy contributions this year:
Tax Masters sponsored several charity races throughout the year at MSR Houston, raising money and contributions for organizations like USA Cares, Meals on Wheels, and Toys for Tots. The venue provides sports car enthusiasts a place to watch great wheel-to-wheel racing while supporting good causes. A portion of all entry fees goes to selected charities and cash and toy donations are typically accepted onsite.
Some of the more entertaining attention Tax Masters received this year included spoofs of the companys commercials, one from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno back in April, and one from none other than Saturday Night Live in October. With the increased attention, Tax Masters ran a Patrick Cox look-alike contest for Halloween. The grand prize was $500 to the winner and the company contributed a matching $500 to Boys and Girls Country, a home for children in the Houston area.
Perhaps the most significant contribution from Tax Masters came in the form of a whirlwind tour of Iraq featuring Texas country music artist Rick Trevino and his band. While not technically a charity, footing the bill to send a music act to entertain troops in southern Iraq deserves some sort of mention. Tax Masters CEO Patrick Cox accompanied Rick Trevino and his band on the tour and was able to visit long-time friend and Tax Masters General Counsel, MAJ Fred Hackett, who was serving with the 36th Sustainment Brigade at COB Adder in the Dhi Qar Province in southern Iraq.
Prior to the trip to Iraq, Tax Masters received the Pro Patria Award from ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve) in recognition for its support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
