The past few years have seen an immense spike in the popularity of the TaylorMade brand, as it has become one of the most preferred brands of clubs on the market. Thousands of different drivers, irons, and hybrids have found their way from the TaylorMade factory lines to the bags of users, and for the most part the reviews have been largely positive. Another series released from TaylorMade is also becoming very popular, the Burner line. Just as the name describes, the TaylorMade Burners are one hot set of clubs. The TaylorMade Burner XD is a club that is packed with technology and design, and has been described as the only club with "Burner speed, Burner power, and Burner distance."

The TaylorMade Burner XD irons incorporate the distance-enhancing technologies that have made the Burner driver such a huge success among tour professionals and amateur golfers. The ultra-large clubhead features a thin and fast titanium clubface that delivers exceptionally high COR to promote faster ball speed and more distance. TaylorMade Burner XD's titanium clubface is more than just fast; it's also extremely forgiving thanks to TaylorMade's Inverted Cone Technology, which is clearly visible on the backside of the clubface. ICT expands the part of the clubface that delivers high ball speed. Between that and the large and stable clubhead, Burner XD is extraordinarily forgiving and easy to hit. Additionally, the TaylorMade Burner XD's titanium clubface is exceedingly light, and the saved weight is used to move the centre of gravity low and deep within the clubhead. That makes it easy to launch the ball on a high, strong, long flight, promoting the kind of distance that Burner players covet. The 17-4 stainless steel club head and titanium clubface are joined using a method called lip encasement, a process that mechanically unites the two dissimilar materials.

When I went out to test them, I first noticed how ugly they are! Now, beauty is in the eye of the beholder I know, but the thick top line and huge amount of offset was really a distraction. I liked the more upright lie angle, this helps prevent the toe from digging in and hitting shots out to the right for the average player. The trajectory was a little lower than I would have expected for all the weight placed behind the ball, but it was manageable. I found that working the ball was not an option unless your idea of working it is to hit a head high duck hook!

One golfer said, "Well, unlike other people, I just bought me a set of these Burners XD's and love them to death. Nothing hard about them. One thing for sure about these clubs, they hit looonng! It really changed my club choice by a whole club sometimes 2 but this comes with more confidence on knowing that this club is so forgiving that when you try to kill the ball you know its going straight. I totally recommend this club to all handicap levels but if you want blade feeling off the club, BUY A BLADE CLUB!"

I was only able to hit he standard, out of the box, medium height draw that these irons were intended for. Overall, this is a solid set of irons for the high handicap player looking for more distance and a little more forgiveness. Personally, I still like the MacTec NVG2 Mid irons in this category. They look a lot better and go just as far with a lot better ball flight while costing half as much! All in all, give the Taylor Made Burner XD irons a try, you may see something in them I did not!
