Teide National Park, A Natural Wonder In The Canary Islands

When booking a holiday in the Canary Islands, it is always difficult to decide which of the islands in Spain we should visit first

. In this sense, lovers of nature and mountain sports should be aware that the island of Tenerife has the highest peak in Spain. With 3718 meters high, the impressive mount Teide with the famous volcano has an imposing grandeur, and gives its name to a National Park with many wonders to be discovered. The oldest of the National Parks of the Canary Islands also offers a unique volcanic landscape of incredible beauty.

The park was declared a World Heritage Site in 2007, it is the most visited national park in Spain and Europe and the second in the world and it still shows remnants of volcanic activity. The tangled web of lava flows, volcanic cones and domes and mysterious caves invite visitors to get lost in a festival of colours and shapes, which also hosts a rich reserve of exotic fauna and flora. Some of the species that live there are unique to the island, such as the Teide Edelweiss, which can only be found at 3500 mts. high, or the Teide silver thistles. The latter species, extremely fragile, is still, despite the care it receives, in danger of extinction.

Climbing the peak of Teide is an unforgettable experience as well as a very popular one and the quotas to take part in climbing expeditions organized by the National Park are filled up at lightning speed. It is advisable to check availability and book the trip well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Another strong point of the island of Tenerife is that due to its small size none of its many attractions will ever be more than an hour away from where we are staying. For this reason, it is very easy to find a hotel in Tenerife and make a reservation to suit our needs whether we want to stay in a cheap hotel, a luxurious spa centre or in quiet countryside accommodation. In addition, we will always be guaranteed that the accommodation we have chosen is not far from the main tourist attractions. Our holiday in this land of eternal spring will be completely unforgettable.
