Temporary Protection Whilst Carrying Out An Extension

Over the past few years the housing market has slumped and people are not moving

house as much as they used to, instead they are renovating and improving the home that they are in.

One of the main problems associated with renovating your home is that most of us have to live there whilst the work is being carried out. This can be a major problem, the dust, dirt and if you've got young children, the hazards that living on a building site brings.

There are a few simple ways to section off the construction area:

If regular access is required to the construction area from the home then a popular choice of partitioning, is plastic sheeting. There are many products on the market today that enable you to create a plastic sheet wall with door entry system. This type of partition provides easy access to the building site whilst reducing the amount of dust that comes into the rest of your home and it also helps to stop your little children getting access to the site, literally a life saver. Although this is perfect for internal protection against dust and dirt it is probably not the best screen to use for external screening. Most plastic sheeting can easily be cut or opened up; therefore it does not offer the security against unwanted visitors that maybe required.

If you require regular access to the site from an external entrance then using a more permanent type of partition is probably the better option. Again, there are many products on the market from wooden boards to lockable doors. From my experience of working on building sites, the best way of partitioning off a building site is a lockable door. On many occasions when arriving to work I would often find that boards had been ripped off entrances and only very rarely had doors been broken into.

If you do not require regular access from an external entrance and will not need to for some time, then bricking up openings using breezeblocks is the way to go, it is a quick and easy way to protect your site. In my experience this has been the most secure way of protecting against unwanted visitors.

I'm working with and coming across new temporary screening products all the time. I'll do my best to keep you informed of all the good products that are available whilst warning you off the ones that aren't.
