Ten Steps For Excelling In Sales

If you are looking to become an affiliate for a company there are many things that you should start to practice

. Selling a product can be very difficult and not all personality types are cut out for this business.

If you are thinking about selling you should do an honest evaluation of yourself. Honestly figuring out what your strengths and your weaknesses are will save you a lot of time in the long run.

First take a look at your personality. If you are going to be successful as a saleswoman or a salesman you should not be scared of talking with and approaching strangers.

There will be many time that you will have to speak with complete strangers and pitch them your product. There will be times when you will have to associate with and sell your product to someone that you do not even like.


When you start to sell your product you should make sure that you take good care of yourself. Everything from your watch, hairstyle and your shoes will say something about who you are to your clients.

Your attitude and your belief in selling the product should be portrayed in your experience. You will be much more impressive and your clients will be much more receptive if you take care of your appearance.

Second, you should reflect on your ability to portray emotions. You should be able to be able to show genuine interest in people and in the product that you are going to be selling.

At the same time you cannot be too prone to show excessive amounts of emotion. You may get to the point that you get very upset with a client.

You cannot be quick to anger and you cannot be completely transparent with your emotions. You should be able to smile and sincerely mask any adverse emotions if you are going to be a good salesman.

Thirdly, it is good to be an optimist. There may be times when it will be easy for you to get down on yourself, on your company and even on your product.

You will be refused and at times you will be rebuked. You should have the courage and the ability to move ahead in your endeavors.

You will have to deal with customers of all different backgrounds. There will even be customers that are rude to you and extremely negative.

Fourth, you should be able to learn quickly. Absorbing information from many different sources will be very beneficial for you and your company.

There are books, CDs and even videos that will give you more tips and information about how you can be a successful while you are selling. If you have the opportunity to shadow a senior salesman you will be able to develop a game plan for every type of situation.

Fifth, you should be able to listen. There are many customers that will want to talk to you about their past experiences and their worries.

You will have to be able to listen to them and to understand what they are saying. There are many people that may think your product is inferior.

Even when someone is questioning your product you will have to be able to be forthright and understanding with them. Convincing someone that your product is worth buying means that you will need to genuinely believe in your product.

Sixth, you should make sure that you are a patient person. Many customers will ask you to come back multiple times before they are willing to buy your product.

They may ask a question multiple times and ask you to answer it each time. Even if you are giving the same answer in different words you are going to have to be patient and try to explain yourself in a way that they will be able to understand.


Seventh, you should be able to deal with competition. You will be competing with many other salesman in your profession.

Even if you are competing with people that are working for a different company you will have to be able to deal with competition. If you can work with the competition it might serve as a source of passion and drive for you.

Do not let the competition get to the point that you get frustrated with yourself or to the point that you allow your animosity to affect your relationship with other salesman. Taking the time to develop these attributes if you do not already have them will help you excel.
