How can many millions of tourists be wrong? Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands. It has an island population that is almost half the total of inhabitants for the whole Canary Island chain. While part of the country of Spain, Tenerife is totally autonomous, with its capital in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The island is home to El Teide, the 3rd largest volcano in the world and Spain's highest elevation. One such wonder to visit by many is the Black Pyramids located a short drive outside of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This structure became noticed during the early 1990's and attracted the attention of a Norwegian anthropologist and was eventually noted to be aligned to the winter and summer solstice. Upon further studies of these pyramids an eight meter long cave was discovered under one pyramid that contained many artefacts dating back the late 600's to 1000 AD. This archaeological site is still relatively new allowing for the excitement of possible more discoveries which helps to bring in more visitors hoping to experience the thrill of the search. All this can be enjoyed nearby the hotels in Tenerife when you visit the Canary Islands.
