Johnson scored on runs of 52 and 89 yards and Jacksonville's Maurice Jones-Drew scored from 80 and 70 yards out. The NFL stated that it was the only game in league history with four rushing touchdowns of 50 yards or longer.

Tennessee (1-6) snapped its eight-game winless streak, which went back to the end of last season. Titans coach Jeff Fisher said it was unfortunate for his team to get their first win this late in the season, but they are going to take the win and move on.

Johnson helped Young with the highest rushing total since Minnesota's Adrian Peterson had 296 against San Diego in 2007. Young finished 15-of-18 for 125 yards and ran 10 times for 32 yards. After the game, the quarterback said taking a year off has helped him a lot. The Jaguars (3-4) have lost two of their last three games. Jacksonville running back Jones-Drew was the only standout on offense. He ran for 177 yards and leads all running backs in the NFL with 10 touchdowns, but the Jaguars gave him just eight carries. Although David Garrard threw for 323 yards against the Titans in a 37-17 rout on Oct. 4, Tennessee did not allow him to get into a rhythm in Week 8.

Garrard was sacked four times and threw two interceptions. Tennessee's relentless defense kept the pressure on the quarterback by hitting him repeatedly. The Titans controlled the ball for more than 39 minutes and outgained the Jaguars 430-330. After the game, Garrard admitted he did not execute the game plan efficiently. He added that everybody on the team has to do a better job of executing the game plan. Tennessee's Kerry Collins was replaced by Young in order to create an offensive spark that was lacking in the past three games. During that span, the Titans were outscored 127-26 and had not scored a TD. Young connected with Nate Washington on a six-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, which ended the Titans' TD drought at nine quarters.

Young also kept the go-ahead touchdown drive alive when he avoided pressure and then hooked up with Kenny Britt for a seven-yard completion on third-and-6. Fisher told the press: "That throw...was classic Vince." With Jones-Drew ripping off runs, it looked like the Jaguars might have a chance to catch up with the Titans, who settled for three field goals from Rob Bironas.

In the third quarter, Jones-Drew scored his second touchdown and tied the game at 13. The extra point was blocked by Michael Griffin, which kept Jacksonville from taking the lead. Johnson answered by scoring on a 52-yard TD run to put Tennessee ahead 20-13, and his 89-yard TD run extended the lead to 30-13 at the start of the fourth quarter. His 220 yards gained on the ground was good enough to break the franchise rushing record previously held by Eddie George and Billy Cannon with 216 yards.
