Terror attacks don't work terrorists know this so what's their real strategy
?
Terror attacks may appal and sicken us, but the reality is, they don't affect most of us; our lives continue without missing a beat. Obviously, If you are a victim of an attack, either directly or indirectly, the consequences could be devastating, but the average person stands a greater chance of being injured or killed in a motor accident than through a terrorist attack.
Consequently, terror attacks have a minimal direct impact on society. Others, however, will be quick to point out that it is the indirect cost of terror attacks where we pay the price; through the increased security costs to protect us from such attacks.
Let us not bluff ourselves, war in whatever form it takes, is good for business. When buildings and property are destroyed, somebody has to replace them. To provide us security from this threat, jobs are created and industries are kept busy.
So rather than hurting our society, it helps sustain and even grows it!
There are even political advantages to be had from the "terror threat". Politicians can manipulate the threat to shift attention away from more pressing matters, making it a convenient "political football".
So, from the terrorist's perspective, this appears to be a rather futile strategy, as they achieve minimal damage, strengthen our economy, provide politicians a political scapegoat and when attacks do occur, they strengthen our resolve to bring them to book. This makes their lives more difficult for little or no payback. Terrorists know all this, so either they are very stupid, or perhaps there is more to their strategy?
I always think it's a fatal error to underestimate your enemies, to give them no credit for being smart and resourceful. As soon as you think you know the answers, you close your eyes to the possibilities, and become vulnerable.
This is what I believe our Western governments have done; they think they understand the enemy, and as a consequence, we may pay a high price for their ignorance in underestimating a shrewd enemy.
Just recently (October 2010) British agencies responsible for assessing the security threats facing the country declared terror and cyber attacks to be our greatest threats. Now either they think the terrorists are stupid for continuing to pursue this strategy, or either they are stupid for seriously underestimating their enemy. Perhaps the terrorists want us to believe this is their strategy, "leading us up the garden path" while keeping their true strategy hidden from government agencies who ignorantly think they know it all.
Is the British government alone in its assessment of the situation? I very much doubt it; as Western allies share information, particularly of this nature. So, we can assume all Western governments share the same belief regarding the terrorist threat.
Consider this and then tell me if our governments have got it wrong. Our enemies believe the decadence of Western society, or our rampant consumerism, lies at the heart of the "evil" in our society. If they could destroy our economy, they would destroy our society. Consequently, our economy must be their primary target. Therefore, the question we should be asking ourselves is "How vulnerable is our international economy to attack?".
The answer, I'm afraid to say is HIGHLY VULNERABLE!!
I have written a novel called "A Silent War" which explains how we face a considerably more ominous threat than terror attacks, which will affect and hurt all of us, changing our lives irrevocably forever.
"A Silent War" tells the story of how a political and socio-economic disaster unfolds as we continue to underestimate our enemies, overlook possibilities, and ignore known weaknesses in our systems, which can be exploited by our enemies. In the story, we are brought to the brink of losing the free democracies of the world, facing regime change worse than that of Nazism or Communism, without knowing we are at war or who our real enemy is.
While at first glance, such a storyline may appear difficult to believe, it is anything but farfetched. This book could so easily be the blueprint for our enemies. If we don't learn any lessons from this book, we remain highly vulnerable to attack. One morning we could wake up to find our lives have changed irrevocably for the worse, because we overlooked or dismissed these threats as impossible.
While this is a clever thought provoking book, it's also an exciting, easy read which will keep you on the edge as the plot unfolds, twisting and turning, keeping you guessing, not knowing who, or what to believe, and unable to predict the outcome until the very last page.
