Testing Your Web Site Regularly

So, you have written your HTML codes, set up your web site

, and did everything to let the World Wide Web to know its existence. Now traffic starts to trickle in. You may even be getting some orders from this site. Does that mean that you can now forget about the site and go on to your next project?

Go on to your next project, but that does not mean you can entirely ignore your present site. Be sure to test this site once in a while in order to see if it is still working all right.

1. Check for bad links.

One frustrating experience by surfers is when they click on a link and get a 404 "Page Not Found" error. The page or site you have linked to may not exist anymore. What is worse is if you have linked to within your own site. People will think that you are too lazy to even check your links.

2. Check for ordering glitches.

Your visitor may have been convinced by your sales page and clicks on the "Order Here" button. Unfortunately, your visitor only gets an error message. What could have been a possible sale has now become a source for irritation. People might end up going to your competitor to buy a similar product.

3. Check for vandalism.

Hackers out there would try to vandalize web sites, not for any monetary gain, but just for the heck of it. Even if your web host has all the securities in place, it is still possible that someone might get into your host's system and change a word or two in your site. Visitors may not be able to notice that, but what if the changes could bring you to a legal suit? Now, that's something that you should always check out.

4. Check for bad incoming links.

You may have agreed with other webmasters to link with your web sites. They may have created a link to your site. However, you should check regularly if this link is working or not. Visitors of the other sites might think that your site does not existing. Furthermore, spiders won't be able to get into your site, which may hurt you in your SEO ranking.

First impressions do last, especially in the web. A site that has many errors will look very unprofessional, affecting your credibility. Visitors may not trust your content, and they may never return to your site. Worse, they may tell others about their bad experience. So, be sure to test your web regularly in order to be credible to your visitors.
