The A-team Will Make A Return To Film In 2010
One of the classic TV series from the 1980s is the A-Team
. The series made a star out of Mr. T, and has an almost iconic theme song. The series focused on a group of soldiers turned heroes for hire who are on the run from the authorities after being framed for a crime they did not commit. The series was endearing, and while many felt that it had a somewhat hokey plot structure, it received good reviews. Now the series is set to make a return with a big screen adaptation, also titled the A-Team.
The big screen adaptation features an all star class, with Liam Neeson as the leader Hannibal Smith, Bradley Cooper as Faceman Peck, Sharlto Copley as Howling Mad Murdock, and Curtis "Rampage" Jackson as B.A. (Bad Attitude) Baracus. The film also features Jessica Biel and Patrick Wilson in supporting roles.
The film is an update of the TV series, focusing on the war in Afghanistan being the conflict in which the A-Team is formed out of. The film will focus on how the group was formed after the men teamed up to break out of a military prison and prove their innocence. The film has been in the planning stages since the mid 1990s, with casting and directors named at different times, but nothing concrete had surfaced until 2008. There were rumors at the time that Mr. T would reprise his role as B.A. Baracus, and then that he would cameo in the film, but he denied both rumors. He admitted that he had been offered a cameo, but said that he felt that a cameo would undermine the point of doing an update of the series, and that the film should focus on new aspects.
Attempts to bring shows from the 80s, and even the 70s, has proven to be disastrous as most of the films produced are parodies of their source material. However, the more serious tone of the film adaptation may serve it well and allow it to break the stigma associated with films based on TV shows. The film is expected to launch a series of films and reinvigorate the franchise. The film's all star cast is another asset to it that will most likely make it a big box office draw. There is also a comic book prequel being published to help build up hype for the film. The A-Team opens in June 2010.
